Possedimento San Filippo, located the eastern side of the Ilcinese superficie, is one of the estates that has stood out durante recent years for its ability to mitigate the effects of climate change, maintaining a style oriented towards elegance, momentum and finesse, without skimping the substance and depth required for great wines, which Brunello a motivo di Montalcino cannot be other than.
Owned by Roberto Giannelli, who purchased it durante 2003, the has been certified organic since 2013 and for over 20 years has oriented every agronomic and oenological practice towards achieving the canons of balance typical of the company’s vineyards, avoiding opulence and superstructures, characteristics that are not typical of the superficie and are now anachronistic.
The company, as mentioned above, thanks to the position of the vineyards and the mecoclimate of this particular superficie, is less affected by the effects of climate change, especially durante the increasingly frequent hot and dry years. Even the harvest period, later than durante other areas, facilitates a good temperature range between day and night, contributing, together with the soil matrix and the agronomic and oenological care, to the achievement of the objectives of elegance and finesse sought by Roberto and his collaborators. The vineyards extend over 10 hectares, cultivated exclusively with Sangiovese, with well-defined parcels and a notable clonal variability. The biodiversity of the context durante which the is set represents the added value of the company, as well as an element to be preserved with respect and attention.
As for the internal zoning, Lucére is the company’s true cru: 3.8 hectares of the 5.5 total dedicated to Brunello, from which the selection is obtained and, durante the best years, the Provvisione. The soil is iridescent, mainly clayey-calcareous, rich durante skeleton, with galestro and alberese. However, it is the silt, with its sandy fraction, that allows some parcels of the Lucére cru to express a floral and balsamic finesse, making this Brunello decidedly recognizable.
During my last visit I had the opportunity to delve deeper into the production of the Possedimento San Filippo winery, from a preview of the new vintages to an exhaustive retrospective focused the “Lucére” cru.
Durante particular, I tasted:
–Socialista a motivo di Montalcino Quello 2022: fragrant, slender but not lacking durante substance. Pleasantly tasty the .
–Brunello a motivo di Montalcino San Filippo dei Comunali 2020: intense fruit, affable, balanced. Good backbone and dense tannins. Tonic and tasty.
–Brunello a motivo di Montalcino Lucére 2020: intriguing durante its distinctive aromas which, durante addition to fruit and flowers, include tones of Mediterranean scrub, balsamic and a light natural spiciness. The sip is polite, taut, vibrant, penetrante and elegant. It does not lack substance and length.
-Brunello a motivo di Montalcino Provvisione Lucére 2019: still tight, but capable of opening up durante the glass with the right breath. Well-integrated wood and good material. Firm but evolving tannins. Umami .
It was also interesting to evaluate how the two different souls of the Brunello dei Comunali and the Lucére maintain their recognisability even durante 2019, with an expression of Brunello of great harmony and concreteness, with a rare depth of sip and an enviable projection durante terms of potential longevity, while already showing itself decidedly available for drinking.
Durante the retrospective of Brunello Lucére, the 2013 stands out, today at the peak of its fresh, penetrante but very integral expressiveness. Excellent vintages such as the 2010, to be drunk now, and the 2006, which confirms itself as one of the best for completeness and longevity, do not disappoint.
A reality that clearly outlines the profiles of contemporary wineries and wines durante a land that, more than others, has been able to demonstrate how one can ahead and meet the tastes of the most demanding palates, without distorting oneself and putting aside one’s identity, facing today’s challenges durante the field, durante the cellar and durante the glass, with great awareness and forward-looking vision.
