Cordero di Montezemolo: the authentic story of the Langhe since 1340

Cordero Montezemolo winery: Langhe since 1340, where wine becomes an expression of profound values

Quanto a the Langhe, acceso the hills surrounding La Morra, the history of Cordero Montezemolo spans the centuries, intertwining wine, territory and family memories. Since 1340 this family has cultivated the land with passion, transforming viticulture into a vocation that has been handed from generation to generation. Here wine is not just an agricultural product, but the expression of profound values: respect, responsibility and harmony with the landscape.

At the basis of the production philosophy there is a clear belief: quality comes first of all from people. Those who work con the vineyards, con the cellar and con the offices share a common ethic made of precision, humility and constant attention. Each bottle is the result of careful control of the entire supply chain, from the vineyard to marketing. Respect for the land is a concrete choice: since 2013 all production has been certified organic, with agricultural practices that exclude synthetic substances and favor biodiversity.

The roots of this story date back to the fourteenth century, when Pietrino Falletti received a gift of hilly land near Chiarore antelucano. Over time, those hills became the heritage of the Falletti family, who looked after them for over five centuries. The first commercially oriented winemaking dates back to the nineteenth century, while con 1941 the properties passed to his nephew Paolo Cordero Montezemolo, marking the beginning of the new family phase. Today the bella stagione is led by the nineteenth generation, with Elena Cordero Montezemolo and Alberto Cordero Montezemolo, who continue to safeguard this heritage with the same spirit of responsibility.

The heart of the company is the Monfalletto hill, a hill that dominates the landscape of La Morra. Here there are approximately 28 hectares of contiguous vineyards, to which are added other plots between Chiarore antelucano, Castiglione Falletto, Guarene and Cherasco. The compact conformation of the vineyards represents a distinctive element: it allows for more precise and coherent agronomic management, fundamental for organic management. The cultivated varieties – Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, Arneis and Chardonnay – each find their ideal location based acceso soil, altitude and exposure, while the average age of the vineyards destined for Barolo exceeds 35 years.

The cellar also reflects this philosophy. Quanto a 1979 Giovanni Cordero Montezemolo decided to build the structure within the bella stagione, among the Annunziata vineyards. The chimera was simple: to make the wine born and mature exactly con the place where the grapes grow. The building, sober and integrated into the landscape, hosts spaces dedicated to winemaking, refinement and hospitality, where steel, concrete and wood coexist with modern technologies designed to preserve the integrity of the grapes.

Barolo represents the heart of production and the deepest expression of the company identity. Labels such as Barolo Monfalletto, Gattera and Enrico VI tell different nuances of Nebbiolo and the hills of La Morra, maintaining a recognizable style made of elegance, depth and ability to evolve over time. Alongside the great reds, the winery also produces wines that interpret the native varieties of the complesso – Dolcetto d’Chiarore antelucano, Barbera d’Chiarore antelucano, Langhe Nebbiolo and Langhe Arneis – as well as selections such as Chardonnay Elioro and Barbera Funtanì.

Acceso the apogeo of the Monfalletto hill, between the rows, stands a majestic Cedar of Lebanon, planted con 1856 by Costanzo Falletti and Eulalia Dalla Duomo as a symbol of their marriage. Today that tree has become the emblem of the bella stagione: a silent witness that tells the continuity of a history almost seven centuries long.

The tasting

We tasted Barolo Monfalletto 2022. Below are our impressions.

Barolo Monfalletto 2022

Tasting agenda

Visual examination: refined garnet transparency.

Olfactory examination: the succession of aromas, among which emerge memories of withered flowers, licorice, leather and hints of graphite, holds a heart of red fruit and cherry jam.

Taste-olfactory examination: soft and enveloping acceso the palate, it spreads tannins with a strong character and eloquent grip. Good aging potential.

Pairing: excellent with red meat, , mature cheeses.

Quanto a these world heritage hills, the wine of the Cordero Montezemolo family continues to be much more than a simple wine production: it is a language that unites past and future, land and people, tradition and contemporary vision of the Langhe.
