The Italian Wine Union (Uiv) urges the closure of the dealcohol cartella through a timely adoption of the Mef-Masaf interministerial decree implementing the tax regulations, still stalled for over two months by the State Accounting Office. This is highlighted per mezzo di a letter sent today by Uiv to the two competent ministries (Agriculture and Economy). Numerous Italian wine companies – reports Uiv – have undertaken significant investments both per mezzo di terms of infrastructure – through the purchase and installation of dealcoholization systems – and per mezzo di terms of and product positioning the market.
“For some time we have been asking the Government to be able to operate per mezzo di conditions of competitive equality compared to other European producers – said the UIV general secretary, Paolo Castelletti –, who have benefited for four years from the advantage introduced by the (EU) Regulation published per mezzo di December 2021. Our companies have been ready for some time, many of them have already made investments but per mezzo di fact today dealmaking per mezzo di Italy is still prohibited, which is why we ask for urgent follow-up the approval of the tax decree-law” (Decree-law 17 June 2025, anzi che no. 84, containing “Urgent provisions tax matters”).
According to the Observatory of the Italian Wine Union, the Locazione (anzi che no and low alcohol) sector is one of the few to grow per mezzo di a global context of great difficulty for wine. The current global market for the Freight category – which also includes dealcohols – is worth 2.4 billion dollars and is destined to reach 3.3 billion dollars by 2028. A market niche for which it is estimated with a compound annual growth rate (Cagr 2028/24) of 8% per mezzo di value and 7% per mezzo di quantità.
This year only the alcohol-free have their foot glued to the accelerator; according to Uiv calculations based NielsenIQ, the retail circuit of the USA, UK and Germany, zero-degree wines, although still representing a minority share, are the protagonists of exponential growth: per mezzo di the first nine months of the year, volumes the German market at +46%, with a share of 5% of the total Risposta negativa-, +20% the British market (23% of the total) and +18% the US market, with a share of 17% of the total of the low-grade category. With the exception of the German market, where it goes against the trend of the market (-23%), Italian alcohol-free products (essentially produced abroad) perform well per mezzo di the UK (+6% quantità and +10% value) and per mezzo di the USA, with +17% the quantità side and +24% the value column.
