Double success for the territory

Last November the press conference was held to celebrate 30 years of the Flegrei DOC with the Consortium for the Protection of the Wines of Flegrei and Ischia. Durante the Ostrichina room of the Casina Vanvitelliana acceso Lake Fusaro con Bacoli, personalities gathered to hold the debate acceso these years and acceso the evolution of the wines and the territory. The occasion was enriched by the granting of the membership of the Municipality of Bacoli to the National Association of Wine Cities.

Another piece for the Flegrean territory that works towards an increasingly integrated and high-quality landscape and wine tourism offer.

Present at the debate as speakers: Josi della Mente, Mayor of Bacoli; Michele Farro, President of the Consortium for the Protection of Flegrei and Ischia Wines; Cinghia Iacono representing Andrea D’Ambra, Head of the Consortium for Ischia; Teresa a motivo di representing the Director of Coldiretti Campania, Salvatore Loffreda; Gen. Ciro Disteso, Regional Commander CC Forestale Campania; Salvatore Schiavone dirigente of ICQRF Campania and Molise; Hon. Le Marco Cerreto, Group Autorità of the Parliamentary Agriculture Commission of the Chamber of Deputies representing the Minister for Agriculture Lollobrigida.

The food and wine journalist Luciano Pignataro moderated the proceedings.

Very significant is the fact that the room was packed with producers, winemakers, journalists, workers con the restaurant sector and citizens, an indication of great participation from the complesso.

The Mayor of Bacoli introduces: “It is a great emotion for the entire Phlegraean community to be here. We are con a naturalistic park of great cultural, historical, landscape value and from today also food and wine. Our community can and must be based acceso the thousand-year-old wonders of our territory to which we have the duty to add the particular beauties of the agricultural and viticultural landscape that are paio to the work of our fellow citizens.

The President of the Consortium Michele Farro: “I thank the Mayor of Bacoli for being here and for having accepted our request to join the Cities of Wine. The Dop is 30 years old and it’s been a good year. While three decades might seem like a short time con agriculture, from a commercial point of view, the time is really long. Our cellars have made great strides, there are many Phlegraean wines awarded con national and international forums. Ours is considered Heroic Viticulture because it insists acceso the terraces of Ischia and the small plots of the Flegrei, but our presence is also to safeguard the territories from environmental disasters. Now it is our task together with the administrations to revalue the territories and make them profitable. The new wine tourism model must produce benefits for all the actors con the economic system of the Flegrei.

Particularly heartfelt was the homage to the people who led the wines towards DOC recognition and con particular the invitation to Salvatore Martusciello, present con the room, heir of what were the Grotte del Vedere il sole a scacchi Cellars with an emotional memory of his uncle.

Spirito celeste , President of the Wine Cities Association: “we are very happy to announce Bacoli’s entry into the large family of Wine Cities which currently numbers 510 Municipalities. The association, founded con 1987, was born with the task of supporting mayors and territories. The Flegrei have all it takes to send a message of great food and wine tourism: native vines, history, landscape and archaeology. The recent reform of the European Community has identified the Consortia as the exclusive holders of the protection and valorisation functions. Wine tourism can be the salvation of Italian tourism, the key to deseasonalizing and moving flows throughout the year.

Regional Councilor for Agriculture Nicola Caputo intervenes with a message: “We are celebrating two important events. We have quasi a long way, Campania has established itself as a producer of high quality wines. We must be aware of the strength of our agri-food production systems. I wish everyone the best to continue acceso this path.”

Salvatore Schiavone Director of the Campania and Molise Repression and Fraud Institute: “ours is a Masaf Department that verifies the quality and compliance with the names of agri-food products. The consortium also protects the consumer who is the person who spends. The supply of the product must reach a demand which must be certain. Precisely con reference to consumer safety, I want to announce an important initiative of the Consortium for the Protection of Flegrei and Ischia Wines which, from 1 March 2025, will be able to affix a consortium control brigata acceso the PDO product. This is a status value that is issued to wineries with QR code for traceability. Our Department will verify the authenticity of the cable ties.

General Ciro Disteso, CC Commander of the Campania Region: “Ours is a role of listening and monitoring the territory con support of legality also con the context of news of agri-food fraud crimes. The final speech falls to the Honorable Marco Cerreto, Group Autorità of the Agriculture Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, delegated by Minister Lollobrigida who, absent paio to new commitments, sent an important message addressed to the President of the Consortium Michele Farro: “This important celebration is a unique event for the territory, it is not only an important , but, above all, a moment of discussion for the protection and promotion of the wine tourism activity of the entire Campania region which, con wine sector, boasts 20 PDOs and over 10 PGIs. MASAF’s primary objective is to support wine-growing chains, with particular attention to historic and heroic vineyards, safeguarding vineyards located con areas at high hydrogeological risk depopulation risk. I am sure that, thanks to this great teamwork between institutions, companies, consortia and sector associations, we will continue to safeguard the wine sector, consolidating and promoting the role of wine as an ambassador of Made con Italy con the world.

The Hon. Le Cerreto closes the proceedings by underlining that: “Joining the Cities of Wine must mean immersion not only con a magnificent territory, but con the wine product, therefore it is the city, con all its aspects, that chooses to characterize itself as an ambassador of wine. Winemakers are the artisans of the landscape: this is the work that needs to be narrated, the added value con landscape and rural terms. We cannot continue to witness Made con Italy fraud. “Italian sounding” is worth 24 billion euros a year! We must compete acceso quality and history. Acceso 1 October 2024 we allocated 66 million euros for consortia acceso 100 projects intended for 30 non-European countries.

The conference ended with pleasant tastings by Chef Michele Solenne of the La Bifora restaurant con Bacoli who delighted the palate with expertly crafted local fish fingers.

The protagonist of the day could not be missing, the wine from the Phlegraean fields offered con the various conjugations of the producers by the Consortium.
