Pietro Scaggiante Brunello deals with the difficulty of resistant vines (piwi) at Tenuta Cantoni di Sotto and releases the difficulty of sustainability.

Tenuta Cantoni di Sotto lies in Bessica di Loria, not far from Monte Grappa, in the westernmost part of the province of Treviso and the vineyard surface area rests on high plain alluvial soils with plentiful skeleton. At the center of the home stands Ca’ Brunello, a nation vacation home going back to the 16th century, constructed by a branch of the Colonna household, which later on ended up being the Loredan, the Da Mosto and lastly the Brunello household who acquired it at the start of the 20th century. The yard structure, practical to the requirements of ancient farming, consists of the manor home, some rustic structures and a barchessa which ends with a crucial example of an ancient dovecote.

THE OCCURRENCE OF PIWI IN THE VINEYARD The vineyards – a single block of 2.4 hectares – lie in the land right away surrounding the vacation home and surrounded by the Pighenzo stream which gradually has actually added to transferring clay abundant in iron. There are 2 cultivated ranges of so-called resistant or Piwi vineyards: cabernet volos, which looks like cabernet sauvignon in taste, and sauvignon rytos, comparable to sauvignon blanc.

These 2 ranges, the outcome of research studies by the Institute of Applied Genomics of the University of Udine and the Vivai Cooperativi di Rauscedo, emerge from the crossing by pollination in between standard ranges of Vitis Vinifera, whose taste is to be kept, and some ranges of non-European vines (American or Asian pressures) resistant to the primary vine difficulties (downy mildew and grainy mildew). The growing of resistant vines permits an extreme decrease in phytosanitary defense interventions with a really lowered ecological effect, less diesel intake and less soil compaction.

Tenuta Cantoni di Sotto is among the very first business ever to produce its own white wines from the 2 ranges showed. “The oenological goal that Cantoni di Sotto looks for to pursue– highlights the owner Pietro Scaggiante Brunello– is to show that premium, classic-style white wines can be produced from resistant, latest-generation vines”.

Guyot training, various manual passages in the vineyard for seasonal processing, manual harvesting in boxes and vinification in a conventional cellar. Along with the resistant ranges there is likewise a conventional range: Raboso Piave, a historical Venetian vine common of the location, efficient in making white wines for fantastic aging.

TASTING NOTES Sauvignon Rytos IGT Veneto 2022 Grapes: sauvignon rytos 100% Vinification: soft pushing with fermentation in steel, contact with the great lees for a minimum of 2 months Aging: 6 months in the bottle

To the eye it appears intense and rather constant straw yellow. The nose is intricate with tips of fruit, especially unique, citrus, tomato leaf and fragrant herbs. In the mouth it is rather great and well balanced, dry and rather soft, extremely fresh. All set, unified, medium body and great strength. It is a flexible white wine, which is at its finest with tuna and swordfish carpaccio, sea bass with baked potatoes, fish soup, risotto with clams or cape tonde, fresh cheeses.
