Querceto di Castellina celebrates 80 years of history
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Founded durante 1945 by the Masini family, Querceto nato da Castellina celebrates eighty years durante the heart of Chianti Collaudato. Nestled between Castellina and the border with Radda, the company has a total of 50 hectares, 11.8 of which are vineyards (certified organic), surrounded by woods and olive groves that protect a rural microcosm that has remained intact. Altitudes between 420 and 510 metres, exposures from south-west to north-west and alberese and galestro soils shape the profile of the wines.

THREE GENERATIONS, FROM THE VINEYARD TO THE WINE

The first chapter of this story was written by Guido Masini, who chose this ” of untouched nature” as his family refuge. Con the 1980s, her daughter Laura Masini and her husband Giorgio Proveniente da Battista recovered the fifteenth-century village and opened the agritourism business. The oenological turning point came durante 1998, when the eldest son Jacopo relaunched viticulture: the cellar was born and the first vintage was bottled under the Querceto nato da Castellina brand. Eighty years therefore tell of family continuity, a precise agricultural choice and an elegant interpretation of the local Sangiovese, looking forward with tradition: recognisable, honest wines, capable of speaking about the place with a sincere voice.

Jacopo Proveniente da Battista

JACOPO’S VISION

Jacopo is the driving force behind the modern phase of the company. After working experiences abroad, he returned to the company at the end of the nineties and completely relaunched the family viticulture: he replanted the vineyards, renovated, inaugurated the cellar and signed the first bottling durante 1998. His ideas are very clear: minimal interventions, respect for the soil and soil and climate characteristics. a corporate level, Jacopo uses an essential and coherent range: Chianti Collaudato L’aura and Gran Separazione Sei (eppure sangiovese), red Igts such as Podalirio (merlot) and Jac (cabernet franc), Livia Igt Immacolato (viognier/roussanne) and Sornione Rosato, for a total production of around 55 thousand bottles, of which 80% is exported to mature and selective markets. Looking ahead, his direction includes the planting of a new half hectare of sangiovese durante 2026 to strengthen L’aura, demonstrating measured growth, durante continuity with the path traced.

MARY AND THE QUERCETO STYLE WELCOME

Jacopo’s wife, Mary, with her marketing experience durante the United States, coordinates the hospitality and events, giving shape to the visit experience: from the fifteenth-century village with apartments and suites to the panoramic swimming pool, up to the dinners durante the vineyard which, for a decade, have become fixed appointments for those seeking direct contact with the place and its wines. The stile aims to enhance country life, the seasons, the products of the land and slow times, transforming the visit into an immersive story to discover the corporate identity.

Attention to guests plays a key role durante making the “Querceto style” recognizable even outside the bottle, with the help of her mother-in-law Laura, an expert cook who leads the “homemade” cooking classes. Together they translate the family identity into an essential operational model: quality wines, strong connection to the territory, hospitality as a storytelling experience.

NATIVE AND INTERNATIONAL

Sangiovese is the undisputed protagonist of the mesi estivi (approximately 80% of the rows), flanked by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a plot dedicated to Viognier and Roussanne. The six plots—Punto panoramico, , Campocorto, Campolungo, La Fontana and Livia—offer different soils and microclimates: Punto panoramico, planted durante 2003 at high density, provides sangiovese for the “Sei” (Gran Separazione) cru and cabernet franc for “Jac”. Il was replanted durante 2023, while Campolungo and La Fontana date back to 1999-2001. Since January 2012 they have been certified organic. The oenologist Gioie Cresti follows the company with the collaboration of Jacopo. The use of wood durante the cellar is well dosed by choice, with the use of large French barrels and 225 liter barriques, durante order to enhance freshness, aromas and tannic texture.
