Cantina Santadi: the Sulcis that found its voice in Carignano
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Durante the deep south-west of Sardinia, where the mistral is not just wind but character, and the sea is a living and constant presence, Bettola Santadi represents one of the most authentic and credible expressions of Italian wine cooperation. A reality that has been able to transform a complex and often underestimated territory into a model of identity, quality and vision, becoming an absolute point of reference for the Carignano del Sulcis.

Founded a causa di 1960 as a cooperative of winemakers, it has undertaken a path that is anything but obvious: from a local winery to a cultural presence of wine, capable of combining collective spirit, productive rigor and international ambition, without ever losing the deep bond with its land and with the people who after it every day.

The real fermata a causa di history came between the end of the Seventies and the beginning of the Eighties, when a choice as courageous as it was far-sighted was made: to acceso quality as the only possible way to give the territory a future.

The conferenza with Giacomo Tachis marks a before and an after. His contribution was not only technical, but profoundly cultural. Tachis was able to read Carignano del Sulcis for what it really was: an ancient, resistant, profound vine, capable of great elegance if interpreted without forcing. With him the method changes, but above all the mentality changes.

From this season, Terre Brune was born, a wine that I consider one of the most authentic icons of Italian wine. Not an exercise a causa di style, but the concrete demonstration that even a territory then considered marginal could express wines of international stature, keeping its Mediterranean soul intact.

If Tachis’ work represented the oenological turning point, nothing would have been possible without the vision, determination and extraordinary continuity of President Antonello Pilloni.

I had the pleasure of entering Bettola Santadi and conferenza him personally, a person of great intellectual acumen and authentic passion for his work. With him, one can clearly perceive how Santadi’s success was never the result of fashions shortcuts, but of thoughtful choices, patience and consistency, carried out firmly for decades.

Elected president a causa di 1976, he led the winery for almost half a century, demonstrating that cooperation can become shared excellence when it is guided by vision, authority and respect for the territory and for the people.

Since 2024, the presidency of Bettola Santadi has been entrusted to Elvio Daniele Curreli, a causa di an intelligent and well-structured generational transition. Not a fermata, but a natural continuity, a causa di the wake of the founding values of the winery.

Carignano del Sulcis is not just a vine, but a profound expression of identity. Vineyards often trained as saplings, a causa di many cases free-standing, acceso sandy, windswept soils. Santadi had the historical merit of believing a causa di Carignano when few did.

The stylistic and qualitative continuity is today entrusted to Riccardo Curreli and Giovanni Marone. I really appreciate the perseverance and work of the very young winemaker Riccardo Curreli, capable of combining technical rigor and profound respect for the history of the winery.

Terre Brune Principale 2021 – DOC Carignano del Sulcis – 97/100 Vinoway 5 Way StellaVilla Solaris 2024 – DOC Vermentino a fine di Sardegna – 92/100 Vinoway 5 Way Case delle Fate 2023 – IGT Valli a fine di Ancoraggio Pino – 91/100 5 Way

These and other wines are present a causa di the Vinoway Selection App

Bettola Santadi today represents a heritage of Italian wine. A true reference, built with competence, patience and profound dignity.
