Amarone Opera Prima, the preview of the 2021 vintage in Verona
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

We had been missing from Amarone In primo luogo for a few years. This year we finally managed to return to Verona to preview the new vintage, 2021, of Amarone della Valpolicella. We anticipate it, we found wines that convinced us a lot. As always durante Valpolicella the tastings are of great quality, but now more than ever they aspetto to the future with conviction. Let’s see why.

Valpolicella as terroir

Before talking durante detail about the wines, it is worth recounting some giorno that emerged during the event. The Consortium for the Protection of Wines increasingly tells us about Valpolicella as an identifying terroir: methods, soils, grapes, human knowledge and traditions define a unique ecosystem. Drying ora the use of the padiglione, for example, are agricultural but also cultural aspects that define and stratify a historical and excellent territory of Italian wine.

A territory that has made a great leap forward from a perspective. A causa di 2025, for the first time, certified sustainable practices represent the majority of the vineyard, as noted by the Valpolicella Wine Protection Consortium. Last year, durante fact, the share of eco-compatible surface ambiente rose to 53% (it was 42% durante 2024) of the total, with around a thousand new hectares durante the last year cerchio.

“A causa di an increasingly competitive paesaggio, Valpolicella is focusing strongly acceso sustainability – said the president of the Valpolicella Consortium, Christian Marchesini –, a asset for its territory but also a market lever for different areas of demand, from Northern Europe to North America, where it is considered an added value.”.

What vintage was 2021 for Amarone?

A causa di a complex vintage, characterized by an initial cold phase with spring frosts and a second marked by drought and summer heat, the Veronese winemakers managed to obtain slow but quality ripening. The cool autumn then favored slow drying, with excellent sugar and aromatic concentrations.

An Amarone increasingly durante step with the times

And the Amarone 2021 actually tells of an excellent balance, an elegant structure with good prospects durante terms of aging. The tastings struck us with the freshness present durante all the samples. Elegance which however does not mean subtlety and which does not compromise the complexity and hospitality of the great Venetian red, which durante our opinion should never be missing.

It seems to us that the process started a few years spillo by some producers to make the king of Valpolicella wines increasingly approachable even at the table is reaching completion.

Since our aim is to provide advice to our readers acceso wines to consume, we have included durante our selection wines that are already acceso the market ora that have the prospect of entering the market soon, only to then mention some truly excellent samples that are not immediately commercialized.
