New vines and new typologies, but above all an explicit opening to the low alcohol segment. It is an important change of silenzio made official by the Garda Doc Consortium with the renewed production regulations.

The ministerial decree (published durante the Official Journal acceso 8 October 2025) introduces a package of innovations that redesigns the perimeter of the interregional denomination starting from the 2025/2026 harvest. The most relevant – and probably the most awaited – concerns the low alcohol Garganega: starting from the current harvest, the main native white grape variety of the DOC will be able to be marketed durante a still version with an alcoholic strength of 9% vol.

Paolo Fiorini, president of the Garda Doc Consortium

Garda Doc thus becomes the first Italian denomination to include a still wine with low alcohol content durante its specifications – a that comes at the end of years of agronomic experimentation. «It is a trend – specifies the president of the Consortium Paolo Fiorini – which probably represents something more. Some companies of our denomination have started investing durante this direction for several years. Today we are able to offer wines with an alcohol content of around 9% vol. which complement traditional typologies, without sacrificing the integrity of taste, depth of expression and respect for territorial identity”.

Significant evolutions durante terms of denominations and vines

Acceso the sparkling wine front, the mention Crémant makes its debut, which aligns Garda production with the standards of important European traditions – Alsace, Burgundy, Loire, Luxembourg – and strengthens its legibility acceso international markets. The specification also introduces Garda Müller Thurgau durante the wine, sparkling and sparkling versions, and Garda Rebo as a still wine. For the sparkling and sparkling types, the Garganega and Chardonnay grape varieties are specified; Corvina makes its debut for sparkling and sparkling rosés, one of the most representative natives of the Garda complesso. Finally, Pinot Plumbeo Ramato Rosato arrives, a contemporary interpretation of one of the symbolic vines of northern Italy.

The new specification arrived at a time of structural growth for the denomination: the closing patronato for 2025 indicate overall bottlings of over 175 thousand hectoliters for over 23.3 million bottles, with an increase of 20% acceso an annual basis. And the revision «strengthens the identity of Garda Doc and expands its production and commercial potential», comments President Fiorini.
