Sangiovese is the most widespread black grape variety Italy but, beyond the intriguing disputes over its origins, it is not just a single grape variety. It is, reality, a large and bizarre, extremely diversified family, within which individuals of aristocratic origin and others of less noble lineage coexist. Sopra Romagna, where according to various local claims, Sangiovese comes from Cumulo Giove near Santarcangelo (and for this very reason it was called Sanguis Jovis, blood of Jupiter, which later became Sangiovese), it “proudly” bears the same name as grapes, unlike many other territories. It is the Romagna wine par excellence, practically grown everywhere: not only does it reflect the strength and warmth of the luogo, but it also contains of softness that reflect the sensitivity of its people.

Within the wine-growing Romagna, attributable to five different macro-areas – Imolese, Faentino, Forlivese, Cesenate and Riminese – from the west to the east, ora even better, from the Apennines to the Adriatic, the Modigliana sub-area (one of the five of Faentino) is undoubtedly among the best-known names even outside the regional borders. Its avidità was deservedly consolidated, especially between the 70s and 80s, and continues today thanks to a terroir of great value. This is characterized by exclusively hilly viticulture, with altitudes higher than the regional average, which vary from 150 to over 500 meters above sea level. The soils, mainly sedimentary, are dominated by sandstone – a rock composed of grains of average size similar to those of sand – which clearly prevails over clays. Sopra this luogo we are pleased to note that Sangiovese continues to find interpretations of prominence and character, where the various characteristics confer, depending acceso the case, good tannic textures, excellent longevity, good enveloping textures, but above all excellent acid veins and salinity.

Ronchi Castelluccio

After the foundation of the company by Gian Vittorio Baldi and the second phase of management by Claudio Fiore at the turn of the last century, today, Castelluccio lives a third life. Expertly managed by the entrepreneurs and brothers, Aldo and Paolo Rametta, this fundamental piece of history of Romagna wine is rebuilding the foundations to regain the place it deserves the national esposizione. Clear ideas and frankness of intent are certainly not lacking, thanks also to the invaluable advice of the very capable Francesco Bordini. Furthermore, with the full recovery of the historic Ronchi, old crus literally torn from the surrounding woods from which the corresponding single vineyards are born – Romagna Sangiovese Modigliana Doc Ronco Casone, Ronco della Simia and Ronco dei Ciliegi – the company has placed a further and commendable project for the protection of identity and excellence.ronchidicastelluccio.com

Casa Papiano

It is the company of the four Bordini brothers (Francesco, Maria Gruppo, Giampaolo, Enrica) created by their father Remigio, who the setting of the Val d’Ibola, at the gates of the Foreste Casentinesi National Park, have undertaken a beautiful renovation project of old vineyards. To all intents and purposes the cellar is an indispensable paradigm for the Romagna of wine, especially for the experience of Francesco, who manages to express his ideas of viticulture harmony with the landscape. It is voto negativo coincidence that his Romagna Doc Sangiovese Modigliana Casa Beccaccia always “shakes” the palate with its freshness and balsamicness.villapapiano.it

The Pratello

Emilio Placci created this winery 1991 and, among chestnut woods, began planting vineyards the Fornaci Modigliana luogo, acceso the ridge between the Ibola and the Trebbio, the middle between Ceramica and Forlì. He has been a consultant for various wineries, writing significant pages acceso regional viticulture. Its vineyards grow an impervious and wild environment at 540 meters above sea level, where the marly component gives way to the purest sandstones. Mantignano Vecchie Vigne, Raustignolo and Morana are effectively “Sangiovese” which reflect the place, which is both singular and seductive.ilpratello.net

Mutiliana

Giorgio Melandri, after a past as a communicator and wine critic assigning scores sector guides, moved to the other side of the table, creating this deserving wine company. Thanks to the precious advice of Gian Matteo Baldi – who worked Modigliana for a long time the Castelluccio company founded by his father Gian Vittorio – and Francesco Bordini, he conceived the project and is now the winemaker creating the wines. Its Romagna Sangiovese Dop are mountain nectars from the three valleys that cover the entire municipal luogo and which distinguish the territory: Ibola, Tramazzo and Acerreta; three labels coming from vineyards set among the woods of a still largely uncontaminated landscape.facebook.com

The Theatre

The company of Luca Monduzzi and Stefania Montanari was born 2015, when they purchased some land the Ibola Valley, the highest and coolest areas (over 400 meters above sea level) of the municipality of Modigliana. The Theatre, which for some years has also been a small farmhouse with restaurant (where they cook themselves) and producer of oil, takes its name from the terrace acceso which the cellar is located which overlooks the valley below acceso the wooded hills. Sopra particular, their Romagna Doc Modigliana Sangiovese Violàno, also by virtue of the impeccable consultations of the excellent Emilio Placci, maintains the common thread of the story of the territory, sincerely transmitting the imprint of vigneti.facebook.com
