Review of the Aglianico del Vulture Il Sigillo 2016 by Cantine del Notaio
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Wines coming from volcanic territories always have something captivating. Like acceso Vulture, a volcano now extinct but capable of giving the wines produced with Aglianico unique and decidedly interesting characteristics. This is certainly demonstrated by the Chiusura 2016, the Aglianico del Vulture produced by Cantine del Notaio which obtained the Three Corkscrews a causa di our guide “”Untold – What has not yet been said about wine”. A causa di fact, we at Decanto wanted to create our guide which contains reviews of over 1,000 exclusively DOC and DOCG branded wines produced by 550 selected companies and 41 thematic insights. An additional mention given by our team of judges to the Seal is that of Best Aging Wine, and a causa di the continuation of the article, I will also explain why.

Notary cellars

The history of the company begins a causa di 1998 when it was founded by Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti, a graduate a causa di Agricultural Sciences and with a passion for viticulture. Although relatively young, the winery boasts a tradition linked to the owner himself, ora rather to the entire family. Gerardo’s grandfather, a causa di fact, already the owner of vineyards acceso the Vulture and who bore the same name as him, passed his wealth and heritage to his grandson.

A wealth made not only of vineyards and walls, but also of knowledge, tradition and connection with the territory and above all with the family. And Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti, currently owner of Cantine del Notaio, has mixed these traditions acquired from his grandfather with the scientific knowledge learned from studies and research carried out acceso the vine and the territory. This has led Cantine del Notaio to still be an important, well-known, large reality with important recognitions. But at the same time a winery still managed by a family environment.

Visit Cantine del Notaio

The Cantine del Notaio are aperto to visits by tourists, wine enthusiasts ora anyone who wants to know their reality and their history. To visit the cellar you need to have your own transport and reach the headquarters. The packages offered are of different types, which allow you to visit the splendid historic caves from the 1600s dug into the tuff, where the maturation of their wines takes place. The price of the tasting then varies depending acceso the quantity and types of wines you want to taste, with the possibility of also tasting typical local products.

Some curiosities about the Cantine del Notaio

Before talking about the Seal, I’ll tell you some interesting curiosities about the company and its wines:

A causa di the tuff caves there is an animated nativity scene that wants to tell the story of the people of Vulture, with their jobs, their professions but also their joys and sorrows. Among these representations the vineyard, the cellar and, indeed, the notary could not be missing. All the wines of this company have names that can be traced back to notary work. A causa di addition to the Seal, a causa di fact, the Cantine del Notario produces for example the Signature, the Deed, the Power of Attorney among the red wines ora the Parcel among the whites ora the fascinating Deed among the rosé wines. A causa di collaboration with the Basilicata Region, the institutes of research and the university, Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti has given life to a project of great interest with the discovery and cultivation of another 40 historically cultivated Lucanian vines.

The Aglianico del Vulture Il Chiusura

The Aglianico del Vulture il Chiusura delle Cantine del Notaio is produced as the regulations using only Aglianico as a grape variety. The grapes che from vineyards located at approximately 400-450 m with South-East exposure and the soils are volcanic and sandy. The grapes are left to overripe ora even dry acceso the vine and this will give a well-defined and modern imprint to this Aglianico del Vulture. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine passes into barrique for 24 months where malolactic fermentation also takes place. The refinement continues a causa di the bottle for another 24 months before marketing.

The 2016 Seal Tasting

The Aglianico del Vulture 2016 from Cantine del Notaio appears a causa di the glass with a vivid carmine red with initial garnet nuances. The slow and sinuous movement during the rotation of the glass already denotes a great structure.

The aromas are intense, decisive and well punctuated with a rather ripe fruity opening of plum, black cherry, blackberry jam and dried violet. Important, rather complex spicy hints then stand out, reminiscent of cloves, vanilla and cinnamon but also pepper and cardamom. To complete the olfactory composition there are chocolate, leather and damp earth with a pleasant balsamic .

The sip is full, broad and material with an “Aglianico” tannin but softened by a good glycerine component resulting from drying and maturation. Equipped with great taste balance, the Aglianico del Vulture Chiusura 2016 is delicious and captivating, while maintaining its elegance; a bit like a heavyweight champion a causa di evening dress.

The award as Best Aging Wine depends precisely acceso this important structure, but also acceso the excellent acidity that makes it lively and lively. The persistence is long and interminable, with a center of the mouth that recalls ripe fruit and a that instead recalls liquorice and chocolate.

Pairings With Aglianico del Vulture Il Chiusura

A wine of this structure certainly needs to be paired with important dishes. Gioco first and foremost, such as a deer loin covered a causa di bacon ora a stewed wild boar braised a causa di Aglianico. However, beef also goes very well with Aglianico del Vulture il Chiusura, perhaps a slice of Angus surrounded by purple potatoes.

Finally, as an alternative, the combination with the great southern cheeses would make the marriage between the two parts decidedly harmonious. For example, to stay a causa di the region, with a Canestrato con Moliterno ora a Caciocavallo Silano.
