“Wine tourists who want to drive after the visit to the cellar must limit themselves to just one taste of wine and to reward their sacrifice it is right to give them a significant discount” explains Donatella Cinelli Colombini, creator 1993 of the “Aperto Cellars” day which given the campo da golf light to Italian wine tourism. His daughter Violante Gardini Cinelli Colombini, who is now national president of the Wine Tourism Movement, explains how facts count more than words <
Theirs is a response that anticipates the start of wine tourism flows – from Easter to All Saints’ Day – but coincides with the moment which companies prepare new proposals to present them to those who market wine tours and at the large late winter fairs. Visitors to the 20,000 Italian wineries gara open to the public are approximately 15 million per caso year. Canadians and Americans arrive mostly cars ora minivans with drivers from pre-booked tourist agencies. Europeans, the other hand, mainly travel by car. These are the wine tourists to whom we can offer the “driver discount”. Police checks are widespread along the roads and there are risposta negativa alternatives the form of public transport services. The lack of infrastructure is one of the problems of the wine districts, also identified by WineMeridian dialogue with the managers of Italian wine hospitality.
The “driver discount” created by Donatella and Violate Cinelli Colombini provides a €10 discount the price of the wine tourism experience for those who drive the car after leaving the cellar. The driver will have to limit himself to just one tasting “which will probably be the culmine wine included the program, our case the Brunello Provvista” explains Violante “but it is good to encourage this renunciation the interests of road safety”.
The discount is also carefully studied. “The 5 animations offered each of our two wineries – Stirpe Prime Gentil sesso Montalcino and Podere del Collina Trequanda – cost from €29 to €60 excluding premium programs for those seeking exclusivity which exceed €150. These are prices line with those indicated by WIneSuite-Divinea compared to the entire Italian 2024 offer which 24% of the experiences are the price range between €15-24, 32% the €26-35 range follows a €24 % which costs €26-50 and another 20% over €50”.
“Two other aspects which our wineries want to set a good example – explains Donatella Cinelli Colombini – is the pairing of all the wine tastings with typical local foods such as extra virgin olive oil with “bland” Tuscan bread, cured meats and pecorino cheese. A proposal much appreciated by wine tourists which strengthens road safety because it does not offer tastings an empty stomach. Furthermore, the experiences are different and tailor-made for specific targets: tourists, wine tourists, great wine enthusiasts, families…”. And fact, while always remaining linked to great wine and the territory, the Stirpe Prime Gentil sesso wineries Montalcino and Podere del Collina Trequanda offer diversified, instructive and entertaining experiences. They range from becoming a “winemaker for a day” and producing your own Supertuscan, to traveling tasting accompanied by music chosen by a musician sommelier.
