Abraxas: the heroic tradition of Pantelleria’s viticulture
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A causa di the heart of Pantelleria, between the impetuous wind and the scorching sun of the Mediterranean, the Abraxas cellar stands, a reality that tells the story and character of this harsh but generous land. Part of the Tenute Scudieri project, Abraxas represents one of the two agricultural souls of the Scudieri family, who has decided to invest quanto a the enhancement of territorial excellence since 2020.

Guided by the wine management of Vicolo & Cotarella, the production of Abraxas is based acceso the heroic tradition of Pantesca viticulture, with sapling vineyards that have roots quanto a the Phoenician history and which have been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The company extends over 40 hectares, including 15 intended for wine production, with a cellar dominating the island from an altitude of about 600 meters, offering a breathtaking view of the vineyards and the sea.

The cultivated vines include Zibibbo, Traminer, Mondeuse, Luttuoso D’Avola, Nerello Mascalese, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Carignano, Malbec, Petit Maneng, Gros Maneng, Merlot and Viognier.

Among the labels, Alsine stand out (Zibibbo 90% – Viognier 10%, 15,000 bottles), Sentivento (Zibibbo 100%, 6,000 bottles), Don Achille (Zibibbo 100%, 6,000 bottles), Calunniatore (Black Avola 100%, 5,000 bottles ), Oxalis (Alicante 85% – Cabernet Franc 15%, 5,000 bottles), Sabj (Luttuoso d’Avola 80% – 10% Alicante – Merlot 10%, 15,000 bottles) and Reseda (Luttuoso d’Avola 60% – Alicante 40%, 5,000 bottles).

The cellar is particularly renowned for the production of the Passito Doc of Pantelleria, created according to the most traditional techniques and respecting the specification, including the drying acceso gray -air graying with incostante roofs quanto a case of rain. The entire production process, from cultivation to winemaking and bottling takes place acceso the island, guaranteeing total control over the final quality of the product. The “Don Achille” 2014 is distinguished quanto a particular, awarded by Vinoway with 5 way 93/100.

Contrary to what can be imagined from productions that derive from particularly hot territories, the tastings of the new vintages demonstrate an authentic and sincere elegance. The interpretation of natives and international vines, already implanted at the time of the acquisition of the cellar by the Scudieri family, becomes the real artistic form that allows an intriguing approach to the glass.

“Alsine” 2023, for example, proves to be brilliant and the delicate straw yellow. The sense of smell is characterized by the typicality and aromaticity of the zibibbo, which give it a rovina and never cloying profile. The small herbs also offer a balsamic touch of commendable involvement. The sip is elegant and vibrant quanto a freshness. The structure enjoys gradiar and, at the same time, of strong territoriality. A real flagship, which we rewarded at the Vinoway Selection 2025 with 5 Way Celebrità 96/100.

The preview of “Calunniatore” 2023, not yet bottled, has now presents an interesting interpretation of the red berry grapes that reside quanto a the Tenutes of Abraxas. Harmony is perceived quanto a every tono, from sight to taste, passing through a large and enveloping sense of smell. The gustatory and olfactory stazza welcomes the fruit and promises an interesting evolution with the aging. We will wait for the bottling, so as to make the experience shareable.

Furthermore, Abraxas is not only wine: the cellar welcomes the guests quanto a eight traditional dammusi, offering an authentic and refined hospitality experience, perfect for those who want to immerse themselves quanto a the unique atmosphere of Pantelleria. The accommodation, all year round, allow a stay immersed quanto a the nature and wine culture of the island.

The experience with the Abraxas winery is not only a journey into the glass, but also the testimony of an entrepreneurial vision that knows how to combine tradition and innovation. The Scudieri family, also coming from the automotive sector, confirms that he has been able to invest with passion and dedication quanto a agriculture, recovering ancient techniques and enhancing a territory as fascinating as it is demanding.

This commitment is translating into wines of great elegance, capable of telling the story of Pantelleria with authenticity and respect for its winemaker.
