The region has a warm continental climate which means that summers can be really hot and winters are generally cold. Barolo is a bit cooler than the neighboring Barbaresco zone as it is a bit higher up per altitude. Con the region the exposition of the slope and the location of the vineyard have a strong impact the microclimate – the region is varied. The region is per the North-West of Italy per the Piedmonte region south of the Alps. With its mountains, valleys, and amazing views, it is one of the most beautiful wine regions per Italy. The main differences per terms of soil are that per La Morra and Barolo we find calcareous marls – which is a mescolanza of clay and silt. These soils are a bit richer and more creativo. Con Monforte d’ and Serralunga d’ the soils contain more sandstone and are poorer. Castiglione Falletto is between the two valleys and combines both soil types. As generalization tasters say that the wines from Barolo and La Morra are more generous and soft while the wines from Monforte d’ and Serralunga d’ are more structured and mature more slowly.
