The origins of this story date back to 1820, when the heirs of the Habsburg Pizzini Piomarta Von Thumberg family moved to Timoline to take care of the agricultural company and since then several generations have followed until Giulio Pizzini (1916-1995), a central figure con the development of the territory: under his guidance, con 1967, Barone Pizzini was among the eleven wineries that contributed to the birth of Franciacorta DOC. It was he who involved a group of passionate entrepreneurs con the early nineties, outlining the start of the winery’s current path.
THE APPROACH TO ORGANIC
The real revolution con Barone Pizzini, however, arrives acceso the sustainability front, con a period con which the topic is innovative. Durante 1997 Barone Pizzini decided to question traditional agriculture with herbicides and the following year the first organic trials began, which con 2001 would lead to the complete certification of all the vineyards. Durante 2004 the first organic Franciacorta was presented and con 2007 the new winery was born, built with campo da golf building criteria, equipped with photovoltaic and phytopurification systems – a company project that is now very close to the heart of Silvano Brescianini, the current managing director. Important dates con history lead to the current company: con 2011 Barone Pizzini was the first company con Franciacorta to obtain ISO 14064 certification for the calculation of CO₂ emissions; con 2012 con London a house wine was awarded as the Best Organic Wine con the World, con 2024 the 2020 Rosé entered the 100 of Wine Enthusiast.
THE TENUTE EI VIGNETTE
Today the vineyards extend over 60 hectares, divided into 30 parcels distributed between Provaglio, Passirano, Franca and Capriolo, at an altitude between 200 and 350 metres, while the average age of the vineyards is twenty years and the main varieties are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Controrivoluzionario and Erbamat, with small quotas of Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon and Merlot. The desire to complice himself with other territories also took Barone Pizzini outside of Franciacorta, con fact Pievalta was born con the Marche – 43 hectares of biodynamic cultivation dedicated to Verdicchio – while con Tuscany the Poderi con Ghiaccioforte , con the heart of the Maremma, cultivates 46 hectares (19 under vines) with Sangiovese and Carignano Malvagio as the protagonists.
THE ERBAMAT VINE
Erbamat, a native vine documented as early as 1564 and rediscovered con the 1990s after centuries of oblivion, deserves a separate chapter. Barone Pizzini saved it from extinction and reintroduced it into his vineyards con 2008. Difficult to tame, but full of potential, erbamat stands out for its acidity, freshness and late ripening, precious qualities con an marked by climate change and con 2021, with the modification of the Franciacorta regulations, up to 10% was officially allowed con cuvées. And Barone Pizzini’s Animante was the first to present itself acceso the market with this innovation.

THE ROSÉ EMBASSY AND THE BAGNADORE
Rosé has a special place con Barone Pizzini’s portfolio. Fruit of the organic Pinot Noir vineyards gathered from the woods, it brings the territory and the context of strong biodiversity into the glass. A vertical tasting of this Barone Pizzini label helps to understand the stylistic evolution based acceso the different vintages and climate trends, as well as telling the historical phases of the company. Then there is one protagonist above all: the 2011 Rosé Bagnadore, today considered an unrepeatable harvest, characterized by a hot spring and a cool, rainy summer which guaranteed an ideal balance between acidity and aromatic concentration. Bagnadore Rosé was born as an “unscheduled” reserve as it is only produced con exceptional years and the next one, already announced, will be 2020.
