Benjamin Franchetti and the story of Trinoro’s new estate vintages
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The story of Possedimento in Trinoro is a story of vision, courage and dedication, started by the late Andrea Franchetti and today carried out with skill, lucidity and loyalty by his son Benjamin. And the wines confirm attention to the territory and the ability to interpret each harvest its uniqueness, keeping intact the identity of the wines and the itself.

“Possedimento in Trinoro 2022 is a long -limbed, but very long, which kindly reveals all its facets a confidential way, gradually – says Benjamin Franchetti – makes you reflect, and if you follow it, drags you with it and never stops”. These words contain the production philosophy of the : voto negativo predetermined recipe, but a continuous dialogue with the vintage, the territory and the individual fees. The 23 hectares of are divided into 50 micro-porcels, each vinified separately to enhance its peculiarities. The fermentation takes place steel, while the refinement takes place French barrique (with a moderate use of new wood) and subsequently concrete, to preserve freshness and precision.

The legacy of a dream

The new vintages of these three wines tell a continuously evolving Trinoro, where Benjamin’s hand moves with respect towards the past, but with his gaze turned to the future. Wines of great personality, the result of a coherent vision, but to the shades of each harvest. Wines that do not seek the impact, but rather precision and depth. For the white Trinoro 2023 by Sémillon grapes, for the 2023 domes and for the Possedimento flagship of Trinoro 2022 it is never a simple vintage update, but rather a reflection, a step forward the narration of a unique place and the thought that guides its expression. Perhaps also for this reason the Trinoro project remains one of the most recognizable the Tuscan colpo d’occhio for style, rigor and ability to tell a territory outside the most jokes.

White Trinoro IGT 2023 – The sandy soul of the Sémillon

The white Trinoro, Sémillon purity, was born from a tiny vineyard of just half a hectare, planted between 2001 and 2006, perched at 630 meters above sea level, acceso a completely sandy soil surrounded by the woods. A that gives this variety a vibration of its own. 2023 was a year of climatic contrasts: after a generous snowfall January, spring brought incessant rains (almost 500 millimeters between April and June), followed by a hot summer that pushed the temperatures over 30 degrees for weeks. The screws, protected by a thick leaf crown, produced grapes with a thick peel and juicy pulp, harvested two steps, acceso 13 and 16 September, to grasp any mature shade. Produced since 2008 as a family wine, it was decided to put it acceso the market only starting from the 2018 vintage. Per the cellar, the grapes were pressed gently and fermented French oak barrique. After a short period of refinement wood, the wine rested concrete tanks for about six months.

The result is a white of rare complexity: acceso the nose it opens with perfumes of ripe yellow fruit (fishing, plum, neSpola) and citrus zest, wrapped agenda of Mediterranean scrub and, acceso the bottom, a vibrant iodized skiing. Acceso the palate it is large, savory, with a good progression and a long and slightly smoked closure. It has structure but not heaviness, an acid furrow supports its development, promising a good aging. Only 2,900 bottles produced for a white with a decisive personality.

The IGT 2023 domes – The most immediate interpretation of the Trinoro style

The domes, only acceso paper the “Second Vin” of Trinoro born 1995, is an accessible but never banal Super Tuscan. The result of a blend of Merlot (41%), Cabernet Franc (39%), Cabernet Sauvignon (14%) and Petit Verdot (6%), varies every year to reflect the specificity of the harvest, offering immediacy but without renouncing the depth that characterizes the Sarteano . 2023, an irregular year also for the reds, saw a hot but not extreme summer, with not perfectly homogeneous maturations. Merlot has slowly matured, while the Cabernet, unexpectedly, reached full maturity before expected. The grapes appena che from younger vineyards and deep land. After the fermentation steel and a refinement of six months used barrique, the wine was assembled and left evolved for a year into concrete tanks.

The 2023 domes demonstrate surprising vitality and precision. The scents of Amarena and Blueberry merge to fresh balsamic agenda, almost menthosted, sweet spices and a touch of graphite acceso the ending. Per the mouth it is succulent, with smooth tannins that caress the palate and a freshness that makes it incredibly drinkable already now. A red that does not need time to show itself, but with a structure that guarantees its evolution. Ideal for discovering the Trinoro thought daily, with its 90 thousand annual bottles, without having to wait for some lusters.

Possedimento in Trinoro IGT 2022 – a “impalpabile” year, long and reflective

2022 is a year that Andrea Franchetti would have called “impalpabile”: a different profile than 2021, more elegant, less muscle, but voto negativo less incisive. After a hot summer, the September rains gave an unexpected turn, giving freshness to Cabernet Franc and Merlot, while Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot reached an optimal maturation early October. The final blend – 44% Cabernet Franc, 44% Merlot, with the remaining equally divided between Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot – is the first since 2015 to bring together all four varieties, a simposio dictated not by a stylistic choice, but from the vintage itself. The vinification, marked by an almost maniacal parcelization, saw the 50 lots ferment separately steel vats, then refined individually barrique for eight months and subsequently concrete (where the cut is made) for another year. The wine rested at least 12 months the bottle before marketing.

To the tasting, the Trinoro 2022 gradually reveals its complexity. Olfation is a kaleidoscope of aromas that alternate gently: a more crunchy red fruit than ripe, at times spirit, hints of foolish violet, black pepper, juniper berries. Finally, a slight mineral note and smoke. The sip is elegant, the tannic plot, precise and silky, is intertwined with a vibrant freshness, while the flavor makes it vivid, almost button. From the long -term structure, almost ethereal, but with infinite persistence, it stretches towards a balsamic and saline closure. It is a wine, which asks for time and which turns into the glass. Produced 8,483 specimens, Benjamin Franchetti defines it as “embellished”, a -canonical word, but perfectly suitable: because 2022 does not affect forcefully, but with the depth of its imprint.
