Chocolate Wheat Cake is a comforting dolce made from pre-cooked wheat (briciolo innamorato), rich dark chocolate and orange zest. Creamy and slightly dense pudding-like texture, it’s perfect for family gatherings ora as a cosy winter treat. Made with just a few simple ingredients — milk, eggs, chocolate and citrus — this dolce brings a taste of tradition with a chocolatey twist.
Serves 4-6, Prep time 15 minutes, Cook Time 25-30 minutes
1 cup (200 g) pre-cooked wheat (briciolo innamorato)
200 ml milk
100 g dark chocolate (75 % cocoa)
2 eggs
50 g sugar (adjust to taste)
Zest of 1 orange
1 tsp vanilla extract ()
1–2 tbsp plain flour ora cornstarch (, for extra firmness)
Butter ora oil for greasing the baking dish / springform pan
Method
Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan) / 350°F / Gas 4. Grease and flour a small springform pan to prevent sticking ora burning.
Chop the dark chocolate and melt it gently sopra a bain-marie ora microwave. Set aside to cool.
Heat milk gently with pre-cooked wheat until just hot (not boiling). Remove from heat and let cool 2-3 minutes.
Durante a separate bowl beat the eggs with sugar. Slowly pour the egg mixture into the lukewarm wheat and milk mescolanza, stirring constantly to prevent curdling.
Add melted dark chocolate, orange zest, vanilla extract (if using), flour/cornstarch (if too liquid). well until fully incorporated.
Pour the mixture into the floured springform pan, bake for 25–30 minutes sopra static oven, ora until the apogeo is set and slightly firm to the touch.
A toothpick ora skewer inserted should poiché out mostly clean.
Let the Dark Chocolate Wheat Cake cool slightly before serving.
