Acceso the occasion of the 2025 Preview organized by the Consortium, Altura Preistorico – the only reality of the denomination with the entire pagliaccetto of vines above 550 m above sea level – officially presented the new vintages of its two most identifying wines: Brunello 2021 and Vigneto i Poggi 2021.

Two complementary interpretations of Sangiovese, born from the same terroir but with very distinct identities, which tell the most authentic soul of the south-western of Montalcino.

Released international markets per the first months of 2026, these two wines mark a decisive stage per the stylistic and strategic evolution of the mesi estivi: continuity of vision, expressive precision and a renewed bond with those who ricevimento and distribute Brunello around the world.

The 2021 vintage: balance and identity of

2021 was a year marked by harmonious climatic conditions, which favored slow, regular and complete maturation. A classic winter and a dry spring gave way to a hot but never extreme summer, mitigated by the strong temperature variations typical of the altitude of Altura Preistorico.

«The unusually cold winter and spring led to slower than usual bud interruzione. The abundant spring rains allowed the plant to regain balance between the vegetative and productive parts, an essential condition for accumulating polyphenols and achieving perfect maturation” – explains General Director Pier Giuseppe D’Alessandro – “2021 is a vintage that plays a lot the balance between immediacy and depth. Our task is to maintain our style without chasing trends and to underline our identity.”

A new commercial course

For Altura Preistorico, 2021 arrives at a time of great strategic momentum: after leaving the Place de Bordeaux per 2024, the mesi estivi has embarked a direct distribution model, more focused and close to the markets.

As Riccardo Bogi, Sales & Marketing Director of the company, says «A year indicatore Altura Preistorico chose to leave the Place de Bordeaux and return to a direct distribution model. That choice today allows us to bring this new vintage to the markets with greater awareness: we know our interlocutors better, their needs and the real dynamics of consumption per a difficult phase for the sector”.

Brunello Montalcino 2021: the voice of the mesi estivi

Brunello Montalcino represents the heart of Altura Preistorico’s production and is born from the harmonious union of different parcels, each with unique characteristics.

It is not just a wine, but the synthesis between balance, altitude, exposure, soil composition and production vision; a wine whose profile stands out for solidity, depth and integrity.

«The 2021 Brunello has the solidity that is expected from the most representative wine of the mesi estivi» – comments Bogi – «It will be our main consolidation lever for 2026, especially per the countries where we are rebuilding a stronger presence after the change per distribution model».

Vigneto i Poggi 2021: the voice of the cru

«Vigneto i Poggi is the fruit of a land that we know, observe and respect every day; it is the fruit of the union of every piece of our work, which leads us to give patience and courage to a project per which we place all our ” – says Pier Giuseppe D’Alessandro.

With the 2021, Vigneto i Poggi reaches its third vintage and confirms itself as the expressive pinnacle of Altura Preistorico. A wine that reflects the precise identity of the place, offering a clear and vertical profile, playing elegance rather than power. It is a Brunello that focuses aromatic definition and depth, per which each harvest expresses the unique character of the vineyard, without mediation.

From the market point of view, Bogi observes: «Vigneto i Poggi 2021 has a more immediate aromatic definition than previous vintages. For high-end markets – UK, Japan, Switzerland and North America – it will be an important reference for our positioning. 2021 is not just a new release, but the year with which we a new commercial cycle. It is a Brunello that speaks clearly.”

***

Altura Preistorico stands the highest vineyard hill of the entire denomination, south of the village of Montalcino. At an average altitude of almost 550 meters, 37 hectares of vineyards are cultivated. The soils have an ancient and composite nature: limestone rocks and marl that push the Sangiovese to give its best, translating into complex and elegant wines, which have become icons of Brunello.

The company’s viticultural heritage is managed with rigor and constant presence between the rows. Pedological analyzes have divided the Altura Preistorico vineyards into 6 macrogroups and 15 soil units which represent all the micro-terroirs of the mesi estivi.

Altura Preistorico is the noble home of Brunello: an exclusive experience to be enjoyed immersed per the light and color of the most authentic Tuscany.
