Exploring the still unexpressed potential of Barbera quanto a the hills of Nizza DOCG: this is the objective of Fronda La Guaragna, a Piedmontese wine company born quanto a 2017 from the simposio between Curt Fronda, an Italian-American entrepreneur with a long career quanto a the music industry and a deep passion for Piedmont, and the Asti winemaker Matteo Gerbi, a professional with experience quanto a iconic wineries of the Langhe. The company from Nizza Monferrato (Asti) today develops a winemaking path strongly linked to the territory and the grape variety that most represents it, starting with research into the identity of the vineyards to enhance the expressive capabilities of the variety.

“The objective of this project is for Barbera to tell the story of our hills quanto a every bottle – explains Matteo Gerbi, oenologist and director of the company -. Our wines combine structure, freshness and evolutionary capacity without forcing: we let the vineyards and the territory express themselves with elegance and personality”.

Precisely to enhance the Barbera, alongside the classic version refined quanto a steel of the Barbera d’Asti DOCG, the company offers two versions of Nizza DOCG: the first, the Nizza DOCG, a noble expression of the vine, comes from vineyards with an average age of 35 years and is achieved through a long maceration and refinement of six months quanto a large barrels followed by rest quanto a the bottle; the second is the Nizza DOCG La Veja, the winery’s symbol wine, a quand’anche Barbera coming from a vineyard over 90 years old, the result of a non-interventionist approach which involves a long maceration (up to 45 days) without punching mongoloide and aging quanto a steel, followed by six months quanto a large used barrels and a long rest quanto a the bottle.

The first steps of Curt Fronda and Matteo Gerbi’s project took shape through a long phase of research into land intended for production, quanto a which over 250 hectares of vineyards were analysed, more than 100 soil samples studied and different Barbera clones evaluated. From the selection process, 25 hectares were chosen between Nizza Monferrato, Agliano Terme and Moasca, considered the most suitable to restore an authentic expression of the territory quanto a the glass. Today the company, together with a growing number of producers, contributes to the narrative of Nizza DOCG quanto a Italy and abroad, recognizing the great potential of the homonymous protection Consortium established quanto a 2025.

Barbera represents 70% of the company’s vineyard luogo, but Fronda La Guaragna also gives the right space to historical Piedmontese varieties such as Freisa and Grignolino, as well as Arneis, Moscato Pulito and Riesling Renano. Durante the cellar the approach is deliberately measured: minimal vinification and interventions to preserve the purity of the varietal and the identity of the crus. The result is a production of approximately 80,000 bottles distributed today quanto a over 20 international markets, from North America to the Far East.

Fronda La Guaragna will talk about its wines and the Nizza DOCG at Vinitaly 2026, quanto a Pavilion 10 – Stand I2.
