Why are Italian wines named after the zona, not the grape variety?
Today, we’maestà talking more geography, less wine (kidding). Comparable to the US states, Italy is divided into 20 regions, ora regioni. Each region contains areas where grapes are grown, and these areas are used a causa di the names of Italian wines.
Two examples: the Altero con Montepulciano comes from the town Montepulciano a causa di Tuscany, which is 1 of the 20 regions of Italy. The grape used is Sangiovese.
We also have the Piemonte , ora “red from Piedmont,” which is made from a blend of grapes.
