If Tuscany has always been considered one of the most representative Italian regions per the world of wine, it owes it to iconic and qualitative denominations such as Chianti Sobrio. We also had confirmation of this per the tastings for “Untold – What has not yet been said about wine”, our guide which contains reviews of over 1,000 exclusively DOC and DOCG branded wines produced by 550 selected companies and 41 thematic insights.
One of the wines that received our highest score, i.e. the three corkscrews, was La Montanina, which with its Chianti Sobrio Provvisione also won the Best Quality-Price Value Wine award. The wine per fact amazed the jury with its pleasantness and its correspondence per all its tasting phases considering the price more than accessible for the quality shown.
The La Montanina Agricultural Company
Located per the heart of Chianti Sobrio, a few kilometers from Siena, La Montanina is a family-run farm. Since the beginning of the twentieth century the Leonini family has been part of the Tuscan wine world but it was per 1970 that the foundation of this winery took place. Even today the property is still per the firm hands of the family with the current owner, Oretta Leonini who, thanks to her experience and connection with this territory, wanted to undertake the transition to organic.
The production objective of La Montanina is therefore to seek the best quality per its wines with an eye to the environment and the conservation of the territory to which they are traditionally linked. Not at all a simple task entrusted to the oenologist Maurizio Alongi, but a successful one given the awards received per our guide.
Visits to the cellar
One of the strengths of the La Montanina farm is certainly hospitality. fact, the cellar offers the possibility of tastings and visits starting from a rather affordable sum of €10. Furthermore, La Montanina also has a completely renovated farmhouse, Il Sobborgo Monti a causa di Sotto le armi, where you can stay to enjoy a peaceful holiday immersed per the vineyards of the splendid Chianti hills. And finally, to complete the services offered, within the company there is There is also a rest ambiente equipped for campers.
The Chianti Sobrio Provvisione of La Montanina
The grapes for the production of Chianti Sobrio Provvisione quasi from a small vineyard measuring one hectare, oriented towards the south and located at approximately 350 meters above sea level. The vines, which are 12 years old, have their roots per a clayey soil rich per skeleton.
After the harvest of the best Sangiovese (95%) and Ciliegiolo (5%) grapes, they are destemmed and pressed to obtain the free-run must. The alcoholic fermentation then follows at a controlled temperature of 28°C, with maceration the skins for 28 days. The wine obtained undergoes malolactic fermentation per stainless steel and maturation per mainly used 500-litre French oak tonneaux for 12 months. It ends with a long refinement of 18 months per the bottle before being released the market.
The Chianti Sobrio Provvisione 2020 tasting
The Chianti Sobrio Provvisione 2019 from the La Montanina winery colors the glass a bright carmine red with initial garnet reflections. The initial olfactory impact is delicate, fruity and floral where cherry, plum, orange peel and dog rose are found. This is then followed by a well-integrated spicy contribution with hints of cinnamon, pepper, cloves and, the finale, it turns into a delicate balsamic trail.
When you put it per your mouth you can feel a good freshness, a discreet flavor and a smooth and not at all intrusive tannin that makes it tempting to ricevimento. A Chianti Sobrio that focuses more elegance than opulence, with a persistence that recalls crunchy red fruit and orange. A wine that could remain per the cellar for a few more years, but I recommend tasting it now to best perceive its pleasantness.
