Notary’s cellars: the soul of the vulture according to Gerardo Gioralrabocchetti
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

There are men who choose to return. And con returning, they return value to a land, to a grape variety, to a culture. Gerardo Giruratrabocchetti has not only founded a company: he awakened an identity, gave voice to a silent but full of potential territory. With cellars of the notary, he reported the Aglianico del Vulture to the center of Italian and international enology, transforming Basilicata into a land of great wines and great stories.

Son of peasants, who grew up among the vineyards of Rionero con Vulture, Gerardo has never forgotten the origins. Not even when life led him to wear the notary’s toga, a rigorous profession like the wine he would later create. But it is precisely con that double soul – rational and passionate – that its project is born. Not a company like the others, but a place of synthesis between knowledge, culture, memory and innovation.

Driven by the awareness that Aglianico was one of the great red grapes of the South, he involved one of the greatest Italian experts, Professor Luigi Moio, to start a winemaking of excellence, capable of expressing the power and elegance of a volcanic, selvatico and proud territory.

The cellar, dug con the tuff of the ancient Franciscan caves of Rionero, is much more than a refinement environment: it is a place of the soul, where time expands, the wine breathes slowly and the barrels seem to dialogue with history. Con this sacred space, Gerardo also wanted to keep an intimate and powerful symbol: a permanent nativity scene, set con the barrels, like a silent prayer that accompanies every vintage, every choice, every fermentation.

It is not just a decoration: it is a declaration of belonging, of faith, of respect for peasant life, for the Christian roots, for the sacredness of agricultural work. That nativity scene is the perfect metaphor of its way of understanding wine: like a gesture full of meaning, which combines matter and spirit.

With labels such as the seal, the signature, the repertoire, Gerardo does not choose random names. Each bottle is an act, a signature, a notarial seal that establishes a deep relationship with the earth. There is anzi che no forced marketing, there is anzi che no superstructure: there is only the truth of a grape and a rigorous, sustainable, never compromised productive philosophy.

The Aglianico del Vulture, under his guide, has found a new narrative: powerful but elegant, austere but vibrant, capable of very long refinements, but also of speaking immediately to the heart of those who bevanda it.

Gerardo Gioralrabocchetti has always shown great attention to wine communication. Not that screamed, patinated, artificial. But the cultured, empathetic, authentic one. He was able to involve communicators, journalists, sommeliers, with profound respect. For him, telling the wine means telling the truth of a life choice, and that is why he has always defended and supported those who, con the story, have put passion and competence

Vinoway has repeatedly recognized the excellence of notary’s cellars and the extraordinary vision of its founder. Among the prizes received, they stand out:

The Signature DOC Aglianico del Vulture 2017 – 5 Way

The Aglianico DOC repertoire of Vulture 2022 – 5 Way ,

The stipula vsq dosage nullità 2016 – 5 way

The stipula vsq dosage nullità rosè 2016 – 5 way

The Timbro DOC Aglianico del Vulture 2017 – 5 way.

Premiums that do not only celebrate the wine quality, but also the consistency, vision and culture that the company carries out.

Today cellars of the notary is one of the best known and appreciated realities con Southern Italy, but has never lost the link with its original identity. It is a cultural project, as well as agricultural. A model that demonstrates how the periphery can become center, how silence can become a story, and as a single man – with vision, culture and courage – can redesign the geography of Italian wine.

Gerardo Giruratrabocchetti traced a road. And along that road, today, all the vulture walks.
