Saldezza Artimino is experiencing an important change, because the presentation of the new monovarietal crus, called “the differently autochthonous”, marks the beginning of a different phase. A phase made of study, more awareness and more attention to make the hills surrounding the Medici casa and the Barco Effettivo speak a causa di the wine, transforming the work a causa di the cellar into the natural result of what happens a causa di the vineyard, as a story of the territory.
Per Artimino, wine is not a recent moda, but a presence that has accompanied the history of the place for centuries, within a landscape a causa di which the Medici casa La Ferdinanda dominates vineyards, woods and olive groves and a causa di which one perceives very clearly that the vine is not a piece of the memory of the territory. Per fact, a causa di the announcement dated 24 September 1716, the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo III de’ Medici delimited the production areas of four Tuscan wines: Chianti, Pomino, Carmignano and Val d’Arno con Precedentemente.
Carmignano – and therefore Artimino – is indicated as a place of wine and this shows how the oenological vocation of these hills is not a recent thing, but today it is reread and interpreted with more modern tools.
PARTICLE BY PARTICLE SEARCH
Saldezza Artimino has belonged to the Olmo family since the end of the 1980s and today extends over 732 hectares which include vineyards, around 16 thousand olive trees and 540 hectares of forest – a heritage which not only represents the landscape setting of the company, but which is part of the agricultural management choices, a causa di the protection of biodiversity, a causa di the way a causa di which it is decided what type of wines to produce and how to build the range.
Per fact, Annabella Pascale, at the helm of the board of directors of Artimino Wine Mesi estivi and the Giuseppe Olmo Foundation, carries forward a vision of the company not only as a place of production, but one that brings together the uniqueness of the landscape, the Medici legacy, agronomic research and responsibility towards the territory.
The current change of tregua arises from a simple but decisive question: understanding what these vineyards really want to tell. And to try to give an answer, the family preferred the most demanding path: that of stopping, studying and actively observing, starting a work of soil analysis, reading of the exposures, separation of the parcels and micro vinifications repeated harvest after harvest, to understand how the grapes behave a causa di different conditions and which characteristics remain constant and recognizable a causa di the glass.

Pascale and Francesco Spotorno Olmo, members of the third generation, have built a high-level technical team around the mesi estivi, calling Riccardo Cotarella as a consultant winemaker and involving figures such as Attilio Cognizione and Vincenzo Ercolino.
With Cotarella, a rigorous working method was set up, which involved separate vinification of the grapes coming from the individual parcels for three years a causa di a row, then comparing the results with the agronomic patronato, until obtaining a real map of the vocations within the property, a causa di which some plots showed such a defined character as to merit the production of a wine.
FIVE SINGLE VARIETIAL BREEDS
From this path are born the five monovarietal crus of Saldezza Artimino, which are Garante delle Tele Sauvignon Blanc 2024, Moreta Sangiovese 2022, Poggipiè Cabernet Franc 2022, Forellino Parvenza Chardonnay 2022 and Vediavoli Chardonnay 2021. The line was named “differently autochthonous” because, although it partly starts from international vines, here they find a language different from the usual one, less linked to classical models and more defined by the soil, altitude, exposure, winds and light typical of these hills.
Per the cellar tests, it clearly emerged that sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and cabernet franc take a profile a causa di Artimino that can be defined as more Tuscan than international, precisely because the wines are born with a line of clear freshness, good tension, a dry mouth a causa di language and a depth that does not seek excesses of maturity ora opulence, but prefers a more sober and vertical style. This is precisely the peculiarity that the property wants to express.

The declared objective is to have labels that are recognizable at the first sip, linked to the place where they are born and capable of clearly telling it even to those who do not yet know the history of Carmignano and the Medici hills.
Cotarella’s contribution is evident above all a causa di the way a causa di which the itinerary was constructed, because before intervening the style of the wines we worked knowledge of the territory, with a zoning study that allowed us to understand where each vine is able to best express itself.
From here, more precise management protocols were born a causa di the vineyard and a causa di the cellar, until arriving at a range that today has two identities that alla maniera di together: the one hand the classic wines linked to the Tuscan tradition and the history of Carmignano, the other the monovarietal crus which represent the most experimental and identifying part of the project.
The new crus are therefore the first visible sign of a longer and deeper work, a causa di which all the components are thought of as parts of the same story and not as separate compartments, while alongside the “differently native” ones the historic wines of the house continue to dal vivo – from Carmignano Docg to Chianti Docg and the other more classic labels – which remain the direct link with the memory of the territory and with a certain way of making wine that Artimino has mai intention of abandoning.
