By Monica Marcandelli.

The first of the Alta Langa is the presentation event – a preview of B2B – of the new vintages of Alta Langa DOCG entered acceso the market by the producers registered with the consortium of the same name, established con Asti acceso 15 June 2001 for the protection and promotion of the only name exclusively dedicated to the production of classic method sparkling wine con Piedmontese territory, and which deals with organizing this event every year from 2018.

The latest edition – the seventh – took place acceso 10 March 2025 con Turin, con the spaces of La Stazione a motivo di Cumulo Lavazza, where 1,700 accredited professionals of the wine sector (buyers, restaurateurs, voices, professional sommeliers, communicators, journalists) were able to enjoy the reception of 82 Spumanto houses, out of a total of 85 to today registered with the Consortium, which are also associated with 90. winemakers.

An edition from the large, great numbers, if we think that the professionals credited for the first edition of the event were 650, 18 participating producers, 40 the cuvée presented.

Today the labels proposed to the tasting are almost 200 (the producers have the opportunity to support the new vintages also labels that may be already acceso the market), all the result of the asset attitude to the continuous research demonstrated by the producers of the ‘high Piedmontese bubbles’ since 1990, when it was started to the experimentation activities for the cultivation of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to be used for the processing with a classic method for the production of wines for the production of wines Sparkling wines, and today raised acceso an equal surface, respectively, to about 2/3 and 1/3 of the 480 hectares which make up the Alta Langa vineyard, for a total of 3.2 million bottles produced con the Areale con 2024.

Group photo for the producers participating con La first of the upper Langa. At the center of the front row, con blue, Mariacristina Castelletta, president of the Consortium with, acceso his left, Paolo Rossino, director of the Consortium.

Labels all united by the adhesion to the guidelines of a production disciplinary (approved for the DOC con 2002 and for the DOCG con 2011) which establishes a minimo of 30 months of stay acceso the yeasts, con the bottle, for the second fermentation, necessary for the pinch of a foam (minimo 36 months for the ‘reserve’ version), with the obligation to indicate the vintage of the grapes acceso the label, which means that the Alta Langa DOCG is synonym ‘Millesimato’.

All connoted, to the tasting, by the common figure of flavor (cited con the clear con the list of “consumer characteristics” reported con art. 6 of the specification), yet all equipped with its own character, of its own personality, coppia to the extreme pedo-swan variety of a territory articulated con 149 municipalities, divided between the provinces of Alessandria, Asti and , between the orographic right of the Tanaro river and the border with the border with the border with the border Liguria, right north of the province of Savona, between the Alps and the sea, with shares of the vineyards variable among the minimo 250 meters above sea level specified by the specification and 480, 550, 600 meters above sea level declared (also acceso the label) by some of the producers present at the first speaking of origin of the grapes intended for the production of their wines.

And because, also, of the margin of discretion provided for by the disciplinary acceso the ampelographic basis (Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, united disjointed, for a percentage of the mass variable between 90 and 100%) and acceso the possibility of providing for the addition of “younger high Langa” to “oldest Langa”, vice versa, for a maximum of 15% of the . Parameters acceso which the manufacturers have the right for choice, within the limits envisaged by the specification, to the astro purpose of giving the wines the best quality characteristics (tendentially high for almost all the tastings conducted during the event), and which bring a great wealth of expressive methods grafted acceso a matrix of common recognition – the “being” Alta Langa DOCG – proclaimed “wine of the Piedmont region” for 2025 by the Department of Commerce, Agriculture and food, hunting and fishing, parks of the Piedmont region acceso the occasion of La first.
