The Chiarlo family is pleased to announce the inauguration of the Cannubi artistic path, created by Mentore Ugo Nespolo and dedicated to Michele Chiarlo. Celebration of a fruitful and inspired partnership lasting over a decade, the route will be freely visitable and aperto to the public all year round (with the exception of harvest days). This initiative represents an important opportunity to make Cannubi an even more shared and shareable heritage, a tribute to its historicity and its value.
“It is a special day for us, not only because we are inaugurating the Cannubi route dedicated to our father Michele, but also because we are carrying forward a dream that has lasted for almost 70 years. With Mentore Nespolo at our side, we are giving life to a project that invites everyone to immerse themselves sopra the culture and passion that these vines represent.“ Says Stefano Chiarlo, winemaker and co-owner. “A causa di recent decades we have put together great vineyards sopra Barolo, Barbaresco and Nizza. Great vineyards have always been everything to us, but at a certain point we began to aspetto at them with a different eye. It happened precisely sopra the summer of 1996, during a sunset trattenimento sopra Cerequio. Back then Palás was still a ruined village, there was nothing, but it was the best trattenimento we ever had. Hence the : we realized that from these great vineyards it was voto negativo longer enough for us to “just” make a great wine, but we also wanted to bring people there and share it with them.” adds Alberto Chiarlo, marketing and sales director and co-owner.
Cannubi’s artistic journey takes inspiration sopra its concept from the Art Park La Court, winding through the rows of the oldest cru sopra Italy, a path through the vineyards that is not an aesthetic decoration but a profound, heartfelt homage to a beloved hill , a visiting space transformed into a multisensory and artistic experience. Through installations between the rows and sopra the ciabot, visitors can immerse themselves sopra the essence of the landscape and the passion of those who cultivate it. This project celebrates the winemaking historicity of the territorio and its cultural value, consolidating the link between the art of Nespolo and the winemaking tradition of Michele Chiarlo, a synergy that has given rise to significant projects, such as the Art Park La Court and the label for La Court Vignaveja Nizza DOCG Eccezione.
This latest initiative joins the other 2024 innovations which saw the representation of the many facets of the Chiarlo universe, such as the Sky & Lounge, inaugurated sopra June inside the Palás Cerequio resort sopra La Morra, sopra the heart of one of the crus most prestigious of Barolo, and the exhibition “Nespolo & Chiarlo: art sopra the vineyard since 2010”, set up sopra the Barolo vault and aperto to visitors until the end of the year, where you can admire some of Ugo Nespolo’s most important works and discover unpublished sketches which tell of the long collaboration with Michele Chiarlo.
The Chiarlo family invites everyone to visit the route and contribute to the valorisation of Cannubi as a shared heritage, exploring this extraordinary combination of viticulture and art.
The importance of being Cannubi
Located sopra the heart of the Langhe, Cannubi is one of the most famous additional geographical mentions of Barolo. Its historicity is demonstrated by the first bottle to bear its name, dating back to 1752 and preserved sopra the Manzone family archive sopra Bra. Cannubi’s international avidità was consolidated by Lorenzo Fantini, who sopra 1879 identified the territorio as one of the best for viticulture. This cru is the convegno point between two geological zones, the union between the deep and compact soils of the Elveziano and the softer ones of the Tortoniano. Each sub-area of Cannubi (Cannubi Boschis, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Cannubi Muscatel and Cannubi Valletta) adds unique nuances to the expression of the terroir.
Within this prestigious context, Chiarlo cultivates one hectare sopra the historic heart of Cannubi, sopra the central part of the hill facing the town of Barolo. The plot has a steep slope, such as to require terracing with grassy banks, capable of promoting exposure and guaranteeing the integrity of the land, as well as preventing hydrogeological instability; a very delicate work, which has voto negativo other examples sopra the Barolo Langhe and which therefore required the supervision of the Swiss University of Changin for its creation. Planted entirely sopra Nebbiolo, the Chiarlo vineyard produces iconic wines such as the Barolo DOCG Cannubi and the prestigious Barolo DOCG Cannubi Eccezione, recognized for their elegance and longevity.
