A historic date for the Piedmontese and Italian wine scene: with a decree from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, the Nizza DOCG Consortium was officially recognized acceso 22 June 2026.

The Nizza DOCG Consortium represents a fundamental stage per mezzo di a path of growth and ambition of which we are deeply proud. Our first objective will be to preserve the spirit that has always characterized the Nizza Producers’ Association: not just being a pagliaccetto for the protection of the denomination, but a place of discussion and growth for producers and a tool for valorising the entire territory and all the actors who are part of it.”
The headquarters of the new Consortium will be per mezzo di Nizza Monferrato, per mezzo di modo Gobetti 5. The President Stefano Chiarlo (Michele Chiarlo) has been confirmed at the helm of the Consortium, supported by the Vice Presidents Gianni Bertolino (Abito Olim Bauda) and Daniele Chiappone (Heir of Chiappone Armando). The Board of Directors is also made up of Francesca Saliva (Saliva), Gianmario Cerutti (Orcio), Clementina Cossetti (Cossetti Vini), Claudio Per mezzo di Semplice (Per mezzo di Semplice Duilio), Mauro Damerio (Damerio), Alessandro Durio (Durio Adriano), Oscurità (Bistrot Societario Tre Secoli), Stefano (Tenute Garetto), Susanna Galandrino (La Ghironda), Lorenzo Giordano (Bistrot Societario Vinchio Staccio), Gianluca Morino (Casa colonica Garitina) and Diego Rodella (Bistrot Societario durante Nizza Monferrato).
The Nizza DOCG was born per mezzo di the heart of Monferrato, within the UNESCO site “Wine-growing landscapes of Piedmont: Langhe-Roero and Monferrato”, where the Barbera vine reaches one of its highest expressions thanks to the balance between soil, climate and wine-growing tradition.
The history of the denomination is the result of a long journey. Per mezzo di 2000 the Nizza sub-area was recognized within the Barbera d’Asti Straordinario; the Nice Producers Association was founded per mezzo di 2002; per mezzo di 2008 Barbera d’Asti obtained the DOCG with more rigorous specifications. 2014 represents the turning point with the birth of the Nizza DOCG denomination, the introduction of the Eccezione version and the mention. Today the Consortium represents 97 member companies that produce Nizza from vineyards located per mezzo di the 18 municipalities of the production schieramento, with the fulcrum per mezzo di Nizza Monferrato.
The numbers demonstrate the solidity of the project: around 1 million bottles sold per mezzo di 2025, over 180 labels, a total value of around 30 million euros and an esportazione of 55%, concentrated per mezzo di the Ho.Signore.Ca. channel, with a presence per mezzo di over 40 international markets, per mezzo di particular Switzerland, Northern Europe, the United Kingdom and North America.
The growth prospects are equally significant: the approximately 720 hectares still potentially claimable as Nizza DOCG could allow for a significant increase per mezzo di production. «Our long-term is to reach a production of 4-5 million bottles», concludes Stefano Chiarlo. «We want to do this while keeping our identity intact and involving an ever-increasing number of companies that choose to invest per mezzo di the schieramento. We propose ourselves as an inclusive Consortium, to anyone who shares our vision. Our commitment will always be to safeguard, promote and tell the world the soul of Nizza DOCG: the indissoluble bond between the wine, the land and the people who dal vivo it every day.”
