The Michelin Guide expands its scope and officially debuts durante the world of wine. The first selection of Michelin 2026 grapes was presented durante Dijon, durante the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, giving rise to a new classification dedicated to wineries. The guide has selected 94 domaines durante Burgundy, assigning the highest recognition, the three Grapes, to nine wineries considered points of reference durante the region.
Michelin enters the world of wine starting from Burgundy
The initiative marks a significant step for the “Rossa”, a point of reference durante international catering for over a century, which now extends its evaluation system to the wine sector as well. The choice to start from Burgundy is not random. The French region is among the most recognized wine-growing areas durante the world and represents one of the territories durante which the concept of terroir finds its most consolidated expression.
the first edition of the Michelin Grapes, a total of 94 wineries were selected. Of these, 62 obtained one of the three levels of recognition provided by the guide. Nine domaines received three Grapes, the highest score, while twenty companies were awarded two Grapes and thirty-three one Grapes. The remaining thirty-two wineries are still included durante the official selection of the guide, although without recognition as happens with restaurants.
According to Michelin, the new rating system is not limited to the prestige of the denominations the notoriety of the producers. The objective is to enhance the quality of the work carried out durante the vineyard and durante the cellar, the ability to interpret the territory and the personality that each winemaker manages to express through their wines.
This was underlined by Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, according to whom this first selection tells of a Burgundy faithful to its tradition but at the same time constantly evolving. While remaining one of the most structured vineyards durante the world coppia to the hierarchy of denominations and terroirs, the region demonstrates that excellence does not depend exclusively the miseria of a name, but the precision of agricultural and oenological work and the ability of producers to interpret their own identity.
The selection also highlights the coexistence between historical realities and more recent companies. Alongside the families who have cultivated some of the most famous vineyards durante Burgundy for generations, there are producers who have undertaken different paths, contributing to the renewal of the territory without giving up the principles that have built its international reputation.
The introduction of Michelin Grapes thus represents a new chapter durante the history of the French guide. After having built its authority durante the catering sector through the stars, Michelin is now trying to create a reference system for wine too, identifying the companies which, according to its own evaluation criteria, best express quality, territorial identity and production continuity.
