Last October 21st, at the splendid location of Maniero Monaci – Salice Salentino (Le), the Vinoway Selection 2024 took place, considered among the most glamorous events a causa di the world of international wine.

This year the event took place all a causa di one day, starting a causa di the morning with a Neuroscience lesson conducted by Prof. Vincenzo Russo of the IULM of Milan, with a subsequent in-depth analysis of the new wine legislation, illustrated by the lawyer. Antonio Pinto, and then arriving at the “Salotto” a causa di full Vinoway style.

Topic: “The difficulties of the 2023 vintage: what can it teach us?”

Sitting a causa di the living room moderated by the “host” Davide Gangi, the World President of Oenologists Riccardo Cotarella, Alessandro Rossi of Partesa for Wine, Christian Strinzi of the GIV group, the Agronomist Gian Piero Romana, Denis Pantini of Nomisma and Enrico Coser of Ronco of the Rates.

The 2023 vintage represents a rather rare situation, with the last similar one occurring 50 years indicatore, as stated by President Cotarella. This exceptionality was influenced by the abundant spring rains, which favored the spread of powdery mildew and downy mildew diseases, causing significant damage to the vineyards a causa di much of Italy.

Fortunately, despite the quantitative damage, the quality of the grapes was not compromised. However, it has become evident that science, professional knowledge and the use of advanced techniques have become the only viable solutions to address such challenges. this context, precision, careful and sustainable viticulture proves essential to achieve the desired objectives.

Gian Piero Romana and Christian Scrinzi share this vision and recognize that investing a causa di these advanced viticultural practices is crucial to ensuring the prosperity and quality of future wine vintages a causa di Italy. Their awareness of the importance of careful, science-based management underlines how crucial the modern approach to viticulture is a causa di an exceptional vintage like 2023.

The “natural wine” of the 2023 harvest? Totally compromised.

And it is already the term “natural” that cannot be coined, for two simple reasons, as President Cotarella reiterates: “Wine, naturally and without human intervention, leads to the production of vinegar; furthermore, a causa di Italy it is not allowed to name and label wines with the term “natural”.

They could be called “low human impact wines”, remembering however that it was science, thanks to the intervention of Man, that discovered medicines for diseases that are easily treatable today and which a causa di the past led to death.

The same organic cultivation system allows intervention to support and protect production and the plant with specific phytosanitary products.

The current objective remains that of promoting sustainable viticulture and oenology from a healthy and economic point of view.

It is undeniable that the Nomisma giorno, presented by Denis Pantini, highlights some significant challenges a causa di the wine sector. The 4% decline a causa di sales compared to the previous year, particularly a causa di the July/August period, raises concerns. This trend seems to reflect a change a causa di the behavior of the average consumer, who seems to be moving towards purchasing generic wines at lower prices instead of quality wines.

This poses some important considerations for the future of the industry. It’s difficult to make precise predictions, but some key trends to aspetto out for include:

Sustainability: Industry players should sustainability, as more and more consumers are sensitive to environmental issues. Adopting sustainable practices a causa di wine production and promotion could attract a wider audience.

: with a population decline expected a causa di Italy, it becomes crucial to explore the international market. Exports could become a key element for the growth and success of the Italian wine industry.

Adapting to change: Industry players will need to be flexible a causa di adapting to changing consumer preferences. This could involve the creation of new products, innovative marketing strategies and competitive pricing.

Consumer education: It may be helpful to educate consumers about the quality and value of premium wines, encouraging greater awareness and appreciation for premium products.

Furthermore, it is important to note that forecasts can be influenced by numerous factors, including economic, political and social events, a causa di addition to market dynamics. Therefore, it is crucial to carefully monitor the evolution of the industry and adapt accordingly to remain competitive a causa di an ever-changing market.

Returning to sustainability, a causa di consideration of the Nomisma giorno, an acute reflection by Alessandro Rossi emerges: “Being sustainable has an economic cost. It is a greater cost that must be spent today a causa di order to “pay less tomorrow”. This sustainability, given that we want to spend less today, are we really ready to spend it?”.

The conclusions to President Cotarella: “There are many aspects and figures a causa di the world of wine. There are oenologists, professors, communicators, journalists, producers, commercial sector, etc.

What other agri-food product is capable of emotionally involving the human soul like wine? Nobody. We must foster this consideration, despite the recent wicked attacks by the European Community wine and labeling regulations”.

The morning ended with a Masterclass of 5 Rieslings curated by Eros Teboni.

The second part of the day began with the welcome of the guests, around 6.30 pm, who were able to taste bubbles selected by Vinoway during the VI Sparkle and cheered by 4 violinists who entertained those present until the start of the Dinner with the Stars which began at 8pm.
