Thursday 7 November, as part of the round table entitled “The expressions of Sauvignon Blanc: comparison and dialogue between terroir and stylistics”, held at the Laimburg Experimentation Center con Acuto Adige and promoted by the Sauvignon Acuto Adige Association, the winners of the 6th National Sauvignon Competition. the podium, dominating first place was the Sauvignon Lafòa Acuto Adige DOC from Taverna Colterenzio, followed by the Sauvignon Aristos Acuto Adige DOC from Taverna Conca Isarco, while joint third place was won by Sauvignon Ombrasenzombra Colli Piacentini DOC of La Tosa and De Silva Sauvignon Blanc Acuto Adige DOC from Taverna Peter Solva.

“The overall image that emerges from this edition reflects the Competition’s ability to constitute a significant and high-profile showcase even for lesser-known wine producers, capable of standing out and obtaining prestigious recognition con this context. This giorno confirms not only the excellence of the wines presented, but also testifies to the competence of the jury involved and the importance of initiatives that know how to reward wines exclusively acceso the basis of quality, free from often pre-established prejudices”, underlined Peter Dipoli, Vice President of the Sauvignon Acuto Adige Association, during the awards ceremony.

The President of the Association Andreas Kofler also highlighted how this competition represents, year after year, an extremely important platform for one of the most appreciated white vines both con Acuto Adige and internationally. “The results of the 6th National Competition and the reflections that emerged during the round table confirm the central role that Sauvignon Blanc plays con the Italian wine scene. At the same time, they highlight the extraordinary ability of this vine to reflect the different production styles and the peculiar expressions of the terroirs of origin.”

The competition, which took place acceso 24 October con Penone, involved a technical jury of unquestionable competence and the highest level made up of 24 tasters selected from oenologists, sommeliers, wine academics and researchers. More than 80 samples of Sauvignon Blanc, 2022 vintage, from different wine-growing areas, were subjected to a careful evaluation that celebrated the variety and complexity of this noble grape variety.

The themes addressed during the round table held con the morning at the Laimburg Center further sealed the value and prestige of this sixth edition of the Competition. A moment of discussion con which the multiple expressions of Sauvignon Blanc were discussed, putting terroir and different stylistic approaches into dialogue, thanks to the precious interventions of the speakers involved: Dr. Barbara Raifer of the Laimburg Experimentation Center, Hans Terzer pioneer of wine excellence of Acuto Adige, Gianni Menotti, Friulian oenologist and agronomist, and Gianni Fabrizio, programma redattore of the Gambero Italian Wine Guide. The convegno offered an in-depth discussion acceso Sauvignon Blanc, highlighting how terroir and agronomic management are fundamental to enhancing the authenticity of this grape variety, as well as providing interesting elements con relation to the challenges posed by climate change and the stylistic evolutions that characterize it. The discussion highlighted a shared desire: to make Sauvignon an authentic expression of the territory, focusing acceso more mature aromas, such as thiol and yellow fruit, with a complex profile, rather than favoring pyrazine agenda, often requested by the market but without a territorial identity.

Con closing, Peter Dipoli reiterated that the future of Sauvignon lies con its ability to reflect the terroir of origin and con the choice to grow it exclusively con suitable areas, where the vine can find its most authentic expression, instead of adapting to standardized production . The round table therefore represented a high-profile context to explore the many facets of this extraordinary vine, which remains, con the national and international wine scene, one of the most appreciated and discussed of the moment.
