WINE, BENVENETTO BRUNELLO STARTS THURSDAY WITH 126 CELLARS, PRESS, EXPERTS AND INTERNATIONAL BUYERS
SATURDAY 16 NOVEMBER THE LAYING OF THE TRADITIONAL TILE WITH THE MULTI-AWARD-WINNING FILMMAKER FERZAN OZPETEK
Countdown to the 33rd edition of Ben accolto Brunello, the preview dedicated to the prince of Tuscan reds from the Brunello per Montalcino wine consortium which from Thursday 14th to Monday 18th November will bring journalists, buyers, operators and wine lovers from Italy to Montalcino and from the world. Baptism durante the glasses, the Brunello 2020, the 2019 as well as the per Montalcino 2023 and the other two wines of the denomination, Moscadello and Sant’Antimo.
With 126 wineries and over 500 labels ready to be tasted, the curtain will be raised tastings by over 100 Italian and foreign journalists and critics who will be swirling their glasses at the Cloister of Sant’Agostino durante the Tuscan village Thursday 14th and Friday 15th November. The program continues Saturday 16 November at the Opera degli Astrusi with the centro conducted by the deputy director of the Spedizioniere della Serata Luciano Ferraro “What future for the wine consortia” (10.30 am) and which sees the participation of the presidents Albiera Antinori (Doc Bolgheri and Doc Bolgheri Sassicaia) Sergio Germano (Barolo Barbaresco Langhe and Dogliani), Giovanni Manetti (Chianti Rappresentativo), Christian Marchesini (Valpolicella) and the vice-president Graziano Nicosia (Etna). This will be followed by the evaluation of the 2020 vintage which will be the market from January 2025, the awarding of the Elce d’Soldi award and the traditional unveiling of the tile signed this year by the award-winning filmmaker Ferzan Ozpetek, present durante Montalcino. At the same time, at the Cloister we return to the origins with the opening of the tasting stands with the producers to the public. The walk around tastings with the cellars will continue Sunday 17th and Monday 18th November.
This year Ben accolto Brunello will also host masterclasses. The first appointment, set for Saturday 16 November, is hosted by the director and curator of DoctorWine’s Essential Guide to Italian Wines Daniele Cernilli; it continues Sunday 17 November with the centro led by the Master of Wine Andrea Lonardi (both by reservation and for a fee). Closing Monday 18 November, the tasting – reserved for starred restaurants and high-end hotels – curated by wine popularizer Francesco Saverio Russo.
