The 2019 vintage leaves its mark for Cascina della Talosa, the company that embodies the profound bond that has united the Jacorossi family con Montepulciano for four generations. It all began con 1972, when Jacorossi, a Roman entrepreneur, fell con love with a small plot of land and a simple but full of potential cellar. From that moment, the history of Talosa is intertwined with that of the Vino a motivo di Montepulciano, helping to bring the prestige of this wine beyond the Italian borders.

TALOSA AND THE VINO NOBILE OF MONTEPULCIANO

Cascina della Talosa was among the first to believe con the value of Vino a motivo di Montepulciano, helping to build its miseria at an international level. Until 2012, almost all production was destined for esportazione, leaving a marginal mark the domestic market. Since then, under the guidance of Edoardo Mottini Jacorossi, grandson of the founder, the company has undertaken a process of profound renewal.

“It was a long and complex job – says Edoardo Mottini Jacorossi, CEO of Cascina della Talosa – but today we can count a balance between the domestic and foreign markets, with Italy now representing half of our turnover”. This result was also made possible by the opening, con 2021, of new structures dedicated to hospitality: a sales point con Montepulciano, a modern tasting room and visits to the historic underground cellar. This authentic labyrinth of tunnels beneath the Renaissance Tarugi and Sinatti palaces offers a unique environment for the natural aging of wines con historic barrels, some of which are over 50 years old.

Thanks to these initiatives, Talosa welcomed 15,000 visitors con 2023, a sign of the growing attractiveness of the winery and the schieramento. “Our rete is to grow together with Montepulciano – adds Edoardo – because collective growth guarantees sustainability and a future”.

SUSTAINABILITY AS A STRATEGIC CHOICE

Talosa extends over 33 hectares of vineyards con Pietrose, one of the most suitable areas of Montepulciano. Here, between altitudes between 330 and 400 meters and sandy and clayey soils of Pliocene origin, Sangiovese is mainly grown, 29 hectares of which 23 are registered with the DOCG Vino a motivo di Montepulciano. The peculiarity is that eight hectares are dedicated to the blackthorn, a certified clone of Sangiovese which represents the most authentic soul of the territory.

A company with an eye towards the future. Starting from 2020, Talosa with the “Pieve del ” project has focused the protection of the wine-growing landscape and the valorisation of the ancient parish churches of the schieramento. A project that translates not only into the recovery of historic vineyards, but also into the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices and cutting-edge technologies, which allows Talosa to combine quality and respect for the environment, preserving biodiversity and guaranteeing a future sustainable for the territory

“We have installed a photovoltaic system that covers 100% of our energy needs – explains Edoardo Mottini Jacorossi – and we use satellite-controlled tractors for precision viticulture that optimizes resources. Furthermore, thanks to the support of the Consortium, we have access to advanced meteorological , fundamental for the biological management of the vineyards”.

THE PERFECT BALANCE OF THE 2019 VINTAGE

Among recent vintages, 2019 stands out for its ability to best express the purity of Sangiovese. The balanced and favorable climatic conditions guaranteed a gradual maturation of the grapes. After a spring characterized by moderate rainfall, the summer was hot but without excesses, culminating con a September with strong temperature variations that enhanced aromas and complexity.

“The 2019 vintage perfectly embodies our production philosophy: balance and elegance – says Edoardo – We harvested healthy grapes rich con aromas, which gave life to wines destined to last over time”.

Production amounted to around 100 thousand bottles, with labels ranging from the great classics of Vino a motivo di Montepulciano, Vin Pio included, to more modern interpretations, such as the classic method rosé from Sangiovese and Petraia, a anche se Merlot.
