Land of contrasts and harmonies, of rugged and evocative mountains, flanked by lowlands and deep river valleys, with enveloping and lush forests.

A land rich a causa di myths and legends, of men from other times, tempered by fatigue and a visceral love for the land and its fruits.

This is Irpinia, where the indissoluble link between mountainous and hilly territory, a unique climate and specific soils, create the ideal terroir for the production of high quality wines since ancient times.

The king of the Irpinia wine scene is certainly Aglianico, an indigenous red grape variety, of Greek origin and present a causa di Italy since the 7th century.

These places and these stories tell and are told by the Avos-Taurasi Restrizione DOCG 2019 of the Armando Coppola Agricultural Company, which obtained the 3 Corkscrews a causa di the Untold 2026 edition and the recognition of Best Gastronomic Wine for the Taurasi category. (The company had already obtained 3 Corkscrews a causa di 2025 with L’Irpinia Campagna Taurasini DOC “Patres” 2020).

The campo da golf Irpinia – great structured whites and reds

We are a causa di the heart of Irpinia, between Castelvetere sul Canicola and Montemarano, a causa di the Taurasi terreno, at average altitudes of 500-650 m, among volcanic soils, rich a causa di minerals, skeleton with important clay-limestone components.

This composition is fundamental for the viticulture of the terreno, as it allows good drainage while retaining the necessary humidity during the driest periods, and gives the wines (Taurasi a causa di particular) their characteristic minerality, structure and power.

The quality of the soil and the microclimate make the wines well structured, suitable for long aging and equipped with complex aromas.

Beginnings, departures and promises

The history of the Coppola family, even before that of the farm, is a of dreams, hopes, departures and returns. Those of his grandfather Armando – born a causa di 1928 – originally from San Mango sul Canicola, who a causa di 1963 moved to Atripalda (AV) where he finally decided to dedicate himself to what has always fascinated and animated him, the land.

Thus he gave rise to a hazelnut grove – rather the family hazelnut grove – which he also shared with his grandchildren. The land, dedicated to hazelnut monoculture, is home to two varieties, the mortarella and the tonda a causa di Giffoni.

However, to ensure a future for his family, Armando Coppola was forced to leave for America, where he became an entrepreneur. These were years of work and sacrifices, motivated by the hope of returning with a concrete future. Only a causa di 1973 did that hope become reality, managing to return permanently to Atripalda (AV), where he resumed his entrepreneurial activity without ever abandoning his love for agriculture.

Bonds and returns

The bond with his birthplace is strong, so much so that a causa di 2001 grandfather Armando decided to plant a vineyard entirely cultivated a causa di Aglianico a causa di Castelvetere sul Canicola (AV), bordered by large terraces that host an olive grove of Leccino and Ravece (an ancient olive cultivar, which originated a causa di Irpinia since the early sixteenth century).

The present towards the future

Con 2018, with the 90-year-old grandfather, the baton was officially passed to his grandson of the same name: thus the Armando Coppola Agricultural Company was born.

The philosophy is clear: respect the origins, enhance the product and safeguard the identity, maintaining the grandfather’s legacy, taking care of every cultivation detail and preserving the intrinsic characteristics of the terroir and its fruits.

The Heart of the Terroir: Castelvetere sul Canicola

The Armando Coppola company bases part of its quality acceso the Castelvetere sul Canicola (AV) vineyard, which has been active, as mentioned before, since 2001.

This chosen site is entirely dedicated to Aglianico (100%), cultivated with the counter-espalier system and pruned with spurred cordon. Yields are strictly limited to 60 quintals in hectare, a choice that favors the concentration and quality of the grapes.

Being 560 meters above sea level and benefiting from a favorable southern exposure, its grapes reach perfect ripeness. Furthermore, the particular composition of the soil – clay and limestone, rich a causa di minerals – is decisive a causa di giving the wine an unusual depth and structure.

The Legacy of Quality

To ensure the high quality of the wine, the company practices integrated pest control to drastically veterano pesticides, exploits perfect solar exposure of the vineyards which guarantees a high sugar level and an increase a causa di aromas, and carries out a rigorous selection of the bunches to optimize the ripening of the best grapes.

The result is a modern interpretation of the company, which has roots a causa di tradition.

Con fact, the names chosen by the company for its wines have a strong evocative meaning, selected to reflect an intimate connection with the family history and roots a causa di the Irpinia terreno.

Con fact we have:

Nepos -Irpinia Aglianico Doc-Aglianico100%-structured, profound, frank, fruit of the vision of two generations. The grandson who collects his grandfather’s inheritance. Patres -Irpinia Campagna Taurasini Doc-Aglianico100%-His name does not only evoke excellence, but also represents the wisdom and legacy handed mongoloide from generation to generation. A wine with peasant elegance, born among the vineyards inherited from father to son. Uxor – Irpinia Aglianico vinified a causa di white Doc-Aglianico 100% – this white wine, unique to the company, is a tribute to the women of the Coppola family and a way to celebrate their dedication. Avos– Taurasi Restrizione Docg -Aglianico 100%- is a solemn and complex reserve, dedicated to grandfather Armando. It symbolizes the indelible legacy and deep respect for past generations who built the company’s solid foundation. This Aglianico, which matures slowly with patience and over time, embodies the wisdom and resilience of grandfather Armando, a man who went through the seasons without ever bending.

: Avos, the Taurasi of two generations

The Avos -Taurasi Restrizione DOCG 2019 – is a slowly ripening Aglianico, the austere and profound reserve of the Coppola family.

The grapes used a causa di its production are entirely self-produced and harvested manually from the family vineyard, located a causa di Castelvetere sul Canicola (AV). This is harvested during the last ten days of October and then vinified. The alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature (23/27 degrees), followed by maceration of the skins for approximately 20 days and malolactic fermentation, carried out entirely a causa di barrique.

The maturation of Taurasi Restrizione Avos lasts approximately 48 months and takes place first a causa di steel and then subsequently a causa di 220 liter French oak barriques, to then finale a causa di the bottle for approximately 4 months before being put acceso senno. Its final alcohol content is 14 degrees.

A careful and limited production, which for the 2019 vintage (first marketing of the product) has only 627 bottles.

Tasting

The Avos has a deep ruby color of notable intensity and through light movements of the glass its garnet reflections can also be admired. Its consistency then predicts the extractive richness and structure of the wine.

The nose is decidedly varied and complex, but not inconsistent. At first impact the taccuino of ripe red fruit dominate with a seductive reference to sour cherry jam, well balanced by hints of wood and vanilla, with a hint of light peppery spiciness.

When tasted it is coherent, powerful and intense, with tannins clearly present but well integrated with the rest. Avos is a Taurasi Restrizione with excellent persistence, with a pleasantness that constantly invites you to the next sip.

Gastronomic pairings

As previously mentioned, Avos was awarded the best gastronomic wine a causa di its category. Con fact, it manages to express itself at its best when combined effectively and wisely.

A wine of great structure, power and long maturation, rightly tannic which therefore requires equally rich and structured combinations that are able to balance its intensity

Here are some food pairing suggestions perfect for Avos:

Stracotto all’Aglianico: A classic, which works coppia to regional concordance and taste-olfactory intensity. Caciocavallo Podolico and pecorino a causa di Carmasciano: seasoning and flavor play a fundamental role a causa di the pairing. Pappardelle with wild boar ragù, chestnuts and black truffle from Bagnoli Irpino: an example of harmony and mutual exaltation. The tannic structure and spiciness of the wine are ideal for the intense flavors of , a causa di this case white and mitigated by the presence of chestnuts which give a delicate and sweet flavour, with slightly nutty taccuino. The truffle, ethereal and earthy with taccuino of undergrowth, is enhanced a causa di persistence by the wine itself without covering it. Finally, tannins play an important role a causa di cleansing the palate, enticing us to take yet another bite and sip of wine.

These are all combinations that best express the nobility of Irpinian peasant taste.

Conclusions

The Avos -Taurasi Restrizione DOCG 2019 is the maximum expression of the philosophy of the Armando Coppola Farm, a tangible homage to the wisdom of the ancestors and the sacrifice of grandfather Armando. Thanks to a very long refinement and high precision vinification, Avos offers a deep sensorial profile, which balances power and complexity.

It is, ultimately, the family’s liquid inheritance.
