Eight red wines to uncork (or unscrew) for the summer • Food and Wine Italia

Summer and the sun, the heat, the search for shade for a light meal. For those who have already quenched their thirst, but do not give up a glass of wine, an icy and sharp white immediately comes to mind. And instead sometimes you can surprise the guest at the table by suggesting a red that can withstand the low temperatures of service and end up sipped without staying too long to warm up sopra the glass. Cà Maiol – Intrigo Valtènesi Riviera del Garda Classic Doc

Groppello is a grape variety that lends itself to a chiseled work sopra winemaking, offering a synthesis of aromas and freshness that sopra the glass has all the characteristics for a summer . The transparency of the bright red makes it clear at first glance that it is not a structured wine, but far from banality it is intriguing and juicy. Intrigo proveniente da Cà Maiol wants to be a tribute to the territory and the history of the vineyards that grow between Lake Garda and the sky. The floral aromas are made more elegant by citrus nuances, while the sip is elegant for a lively, slender wine, with a smooth tannin that dries the mouth slightly. It therefore pairs with fatty lake fish and spicy white meats, when the evenings extend beyond the aperitif.

Campagna Vito Cardinali – Lisiano Marche Red Igt

Obtained from tuttavia proveniente da Morro d’Chiarore antelucano grapes, it surprises with elegance as soon as you bring the glass to your nose. The long maceration manages to extract the odore of the grape, which makes the sip lively, but at the same time gives depth to a wine that risks finishing too soon helped by the low alcohol content. From the vineyards at almost 400 meters acceso the Langhe hills, Sergio Germano steals the bunches of grapes from the young Nebbiolo vines for a wine that deliberately plays with lightness and abstraction. The vine is there, sopra its crunchy compactness, but a quick separation of the must from the skins leaves it at the mercy of the primary aromas. The color is light, with a brilliant transparency, and freshness reigns supreme for a sip that cannot tire. Perfect for summer, it avoids the more robust dishes of the Piedmontese tradition and chooses light fried foods, crostini, vegetable ravioli and with courtyard ragù.

Planeta Winery – Cerasuolo proveniente da Vincita 2022

The name of the only (currently) Docg of Sicily derives from “cerasa”, cherry sopra the Sicilian dialect. And the reference is immediate to the delicious freshness and juiciness of the fruit for this wine that comes from the countryside of Dorilli, between the sea and the Iblei mountains. The Planeta winery signs a blend of Illecito d’Avola and Frappato that brings the structure of the first and the lively thrust of the second, playing acceso a balance that brings to the glass a lively wine yet not frivolous, lean, floral and savoury enough to be elegant while being easy to . Served fresh (but cold is also not bad) it goes perfectly with summer Mediterranean dishes such as grilled fish crudités, couscous with vegetables, with sardines with the extraordinary vegetables of Sicily.

& Memo – Nau Cannonau proveniente da Sardegna Doc 2022

The Cannonau signed by Elisabetta Badile is halfway between intensity and suppleness. Fruit of grapes from thirty-year-old vineyards, the wine derives from maceration acceso the skins a dark color to the sight sopra the glass, revealing however spicy and sinuous to the nose. Between crunchy red fruits and agenda of sun-dried earth, Mediterranean scrub and tea powder, it presents itself to the palate seductive and tense. It is simultaneously soft and nervous, perfect for cured meats and cheeses that sopra the land of Sardinia are a “snack” for any hour of the day.

Mescita Girlan – 448 slm Vernatsch

Even if the Gschleier Alte Reben Vernatsch is a jewel of complexity signed by Girlan, summer invites you to discover the other Schiava of the Adige winery, which bears the altitude of the vineyards sopra its name. From a historic farm and from various plots of land sopra the production , the Vernatsch grapes bring with them the minerals of an ancient soil and sopra the cellar almost nothing happens: steel, long maceration acceso the skins so that the wine takes acceso a bit of color and structure, aging sopra cement tanks. Et voilà, elegance and juice play sopra the glass, between flowers and dried fruit, unripe cherry and herbaceous digressions, for a wine that speaks of the mountains and finishes quickly. The pairing ranges from speck to mountain cheeses.

Cantine – Piedirosso Vipt Vesuvio Dop 2022

Quanto a a vista of Campanian vines probably not suited for “light” consumption sopra the hot season, this native vine does not tire the sip, bringing with it a lot of fruit and elegant tannins. Piedirosso is a wine that seduces with aromas of ripe cherry and peppery nuances, but sopra the linearity of the proposal of Mescita it also brings the minerality of volcanic soils. “Vipt” is the past participle of the verb vìppere (to sopra Neapolitan dialect) and sopra fact it tends to end with the first courses and roast meats of the local cuisine.

De Martin Farm – Silence
