History, characteristics and future of the great Tuscan white • Food and Wine Italy

It was the first Italian wine to obtain the DOC durante 1966 and this primato multiplied its production almost sixty times. The history of the Vernaccia of San Gimignano, although the origin of the grape is still rather uncertain, is at the same time fascinating and full of literary references. It is a wine that durante the past has represented a particular size: just think that his first organoleptic card was even compiled by Michelangelo Buonarroti, who summarized it durante five incisors verbs – kisses, licking, bites, puntiglio and punge. The most famous combination is instead suggested by Alighieri durante Purgatory, durante the group of the Golosi. Docg since 1993, the Vernaccia of San Gimignano has preserved its strong territorial identity over time, linked to one of the most beautiful medieval cities durante Tuscany, immersed durante a spectacular hilly landscape, shaped by centuries of history and embellished with breathtaking views.

The third edition of the Vernaccia che San Gimignano Wine Fest

It is considered the “White Queen durante a land of King Rossi”. This mantra, which underlines the distinctive feature of this extension variety, has reaffirmed durante the third edition of Regina Ammutinato -Annaccia of San Gimignano Wine Fest, an event promoted and organized by the consortium of the same name chaired by Irina Strozzi. Two days that animated the historic center of San Gimignano, recording the presence of over 1,500 Wine Lovers who were able to savor the large white of Tuscany: about 10 thousand tastings among the benches of 34 local companies, numerous master classes, food-vine combination workshops with typical Tuscan products and entertainment activities for the little ones.

“We are extremely satisfied with the great public success of this edition, which celebrates such a rare and precious wine, symbol of an extraordinary territory and a unique denomination, with eight centuries of history that decisively to the future,” said President Irina Strozzi. Words that confirm not only the importance of a moment of great celebration, but also (and above all) the awareness of proudly strengthening the identity and central role of this nectar durante the Tuscan and national wine scene.

The characteristics of wine and its versatility

Vernaccia, for its physiological peculiarities, gives rise to a white with fragrances of aromatic herbs, citrus fruits and dried fruit. If aromatic persistence and marked acidity do not summarize its distinctive qualities as they , it is equally true that the white of San Gimignano has a significant potential when it manifests a good material density, a marked flavor and a noteworthy aging capacity. A part of the merit is coppia to soils of mainly pliocene origin: ancient seabeds where, still today, it is not uncommon to find fossils and shells. These give the grapes of discreet thickness, printed and green-yellowish durante color, durante the areas most exposed to the sun, tend to the ambient. The result is also a great versatility durante the cellar, with the possibility of maturing durante different containers: from steel – the most used – to wood and cotto, constantly growing, without ever compromising personalities and longevity.

Vernaccia che San Gimignano DOCG 2024 to the trial of the glass

The present and recent history speak of a white that grows every year durante quality and conquers more and more passionate. If sapidity and spicy quaderno seduce connoisseurs and lovers of the nuances, they may appear less immediate the palate of the general public. The vintage protagonist of this preview, 2024, was climatically complex, with mild winters and frequent rains alternating with periods of drought and heat. Per mezzo di such a difficult year, the Vernaccia of San Gimignano has once again shown its secular vocation and the ability to adapt to the regione of the regione, also thanks to the agronomic choices made durante recent years to deal with extreme weather conditions increasingly frequent.

Vernaccia-San-Gimignano-Cos-and-Sassation-Sapore

Among the most convincing tastings of the latter harvest, Clara Salire alle stelle che Glande Sant’Andrea, the stained houses of cows, from Fugnano of Podere che Fugnano, Selvabianca of Il Colombaio che Santa Chiara, Suevis of Mormoraia, del Avere qualcosa al sole che PietroSerena, white island of Teuzzzzi and che Tollena stand out.

Per mezzo di short, we continue to appreciate a Nordic white that fights against climate change, thanks to a community of producers capable of reacting to challenges and keeping alive the reputation of a wine that represents a crossroads of history, culture and wine research.
