In Cinere a Lioni: wine excellence and sustainability in Alta Irpinia – Foodmakers.it

Per mezzo di the quiet of Alta Irpinia, a causa di the municipality of Lioni, there is a unique wine-growing reality: the Per mezzo di Cinere. The roots of a passion

Sommo Aversa, an agronomist by avviamento, began his journey a causa di the 90s by importing Brazilian coffee. “I have always had a passion for high-quality raw materials,” he says. “Our story was born from the desire to return to the countryside, rediscovering the connection with the land and with family tradition,” says Aversa. The cellar takes its name from the concept of natural cyclicality, a reference to transformation and regeneration, central values ​​for the company. “Per mezzo di Cinere is the result of a passion developed over the years,” he explains.

A family passion

Per mezzo di Cinere is also a family story. Sommo and Valentina’s daughters, Federica and Ludovica, are involved a causa di the company.

“Seeing them work with the same passion is a source of pride and hope for the future,” says the founder.

The territory and the vines

With 12 hectares of vineyards located at over 700 meters above sea level, Per mezzo di Cinere is dedicated to the production of DOCG wines such as Taurasi, nel corso di Tufo and Fiano nel corso di Avellino, as well as an elegant rosé and a lively Falanghina. “Our approach is simple: respect for the land and valorisation of the territory,” explains Aversa.

Alta Irpinia, with altitudes above 700 meters above sea level and volcanic soils rich a causa di minerals, represents the beating heart of Per mezzo di Cinere. This unique terroir gives the wines a distinctive complexity and minerality. “Irpinia is kissed by the sun and geological history,” underlines Aversa.

The winery grows native vines such as Aglianico, nel corso di Tufo and Fiano nel corso di Avellino, which give life to highly prestigious DOCG labels, including Taurasi. Furthermore, they produce Falanghina, a rosé and are experimenting with Bordeaux blends to expand the range of reds.

Quality and innovation

Per mezzo di Cinere’s production philosophy is based sustainable practices and meticulous attention to quality, relying leading winemakers. After collaborations with names such as Cotarella and , from 2025 the company has chosen to a young French winemaker, who favors the role of the vineyard over the cellar. “The French give importance to the vineyard; the cellar can be simple,” observes Aversa, reflecting this minimalist but effective vision.

Expansion and successes

With a production of 70-80,000 bottles per fortuna year, Per mezzo di Cinere is mainly aimed at the Horeca channel, with a the Campania market and a growing international interest, thanks to an importer a causa di Switzerland. Looking ahead, the winery plans to expand its offering with an accommodation facility dedicated to wine tourism and the production of extra virgin olive oil. Furthermore, it is evaluating the possibility of producing sparkling wines with the classic and Charmat methods, continuing to innovate without ever losing sight of its roots.

“Per mezzo di Cinere is more than a cellar; it is a life project, a dream that grows with us and with the territory we love,” concludes Aversa, allowing us to glimpse a future full of promises.
