15 years of Santalucia, the solidarity project of Maculan and the Banca degli Occhi Foundation

Acceso Wednesday 11 December, guests of the Alajmo brothers’ Le Calandre*** restaurant con Sarmeola durante Rubano (Padua), the Maculan winery and the Banco degli Occhi del Veneto ETS Foundation presented the Santalucia 2023 charity initiative.

A partnership that con 15 years has raised over 380 thousand euros to support scientific research against eye diseases, through the awarding of unique and numbered bottles from the best barriques of the Maculan company con Breganze (Vicenza).

“Santalucia 2023 is a Cabernet Sauvignon selected by the panel of tasters, journalists and institutional representatives who met last October 29th con our headquarters – explains Felice Maculan –. An edition that we particularly care about for the mastery and sensitivity that the cooperative’s artists have reserved for the project. The eye of Saint Lucia has been interpreted freehand 300 times, giving life to labels that are even more precious con their singularity”.

The artistic packaging and graphics of the limited edition were created by the guys from Durante.PERFETTO, an artistic laboratorio that offers avviamento and preparation for the world of work, part of the Cooperativa Vite Vere Mongoloide DADI of Padua.

“At Durante.PERFETTO we welcome people with intellectual disabilities, we enhance their abilities, we strengthen their skills and we work so that each and every one’s life is fulfilling and inclusive – explains Anna Pretolani, psychologist and coordinator of the Durante.PERFETTO project -. The person is at the center with all the imperfections that make them unique.”

“With this fifteenth edition of the Santalucia project, Felice Maculan has given us a great gift, a brilliant work of inclusion and beauty combined with the excellent quality of his wine – states Diego Ponzin, the President of the Banco degli Occhi Foundation –. We are grateful to Bistrot Maculan and to all the supporters who, through these 300 bottles, want to help us con the treatment of eye diseases”.

This year’s proceeds will support the activities of the new Santalucia Clinic, the first surgical center inaugurated by the Fondazioni Banco degli Occhi del Veneto ETS, dedicated to people suffering from rare pathologies, the search for new therapies and the development of cutting-edge therapeutic paths .

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a single panoramic vineyard rooted con Ferrata, con Breganze, a hill with volcanic and tuff soil facing south. The bouquet is clean, frank, with hints of ripe blue fruit, plum and blueberry, very pleasant. Durante the mouth it is rich and dry, the sip is full, defined by intense fruity hints. Structured and persistent, Santalucia 2023 has a high aging potential, capable of expressing itself to its maximum con the next ten years. Excellent con combination with roasts and mature cheeses
