In the heart of Sannio: emotions, culture and wine glasses – Foodmakers.it

The charm of Sannio, a journey between emotions and flavors

Have you ever thought of getting lost per a place where time seems to slow mongoloide, the scents of the earth with those of peasant cuisine, and each glass of wine tells a story? This is Sannio. Located per the heart of Campania, this territory has the rare gift to conquer you slowly, gently, but decisively. During the “Sannio Wine Experience”, I discovered not only a generous region full of traditions, but also a humanity that knows how to welcome sincerely.

This experience was not only a food and wine tour. It was a real cultural immersion, which allowed me to traversone historical eras, taste precious wines, listen to the stories of local producers and admire breathtaking landscapes. A journey that begins per Benevento, a millennial city, and which winds between perched hermitages, medieval villages and vineyards that draw the landscape with elegance.

Yet beyond the places, what is striking per Sannio is human warmth. The simple, straightforward welcome, the one that is not forgotten. Every , every handshake, each toast is an invitation to stay, to slow mongoloide, to really hear.

Welcome to Benevento: the entrance door of Sannio

Getting to Benevento is like entering a history book written with stone and wine. The city welcomes with a relaxed and at the same time noble air, a rare combination. The streets of the historic center are full of suggestions: the ancient Roman walls, the alleys that tell centuries of culture, the places where you can breathe the authentic taste of tradition.

The accommodation at Masseria Roseto Cotroneo, per a double room single use, was the perfect start. Located a short distance from the city center, this structure is an oasis of peace immersed per the Benevento countryside. Here the silence is interrupted only by the song of the birds and by the rustle of the wind among the olive trees.

Benevento, however, is not just architectural beauty. It is also an active and alive center, with a strong cultural vocation. The Consortium for the protection of Sannio has organized this journey precisely to make known the most authentic side of the territory: that made of work, passion, lived and shared beauty.

A city between myth and history: Fortificazione dei Rectors and the cult of the goddess Isis

Our guided tour kicked chiuso the Fortificazione dei Rettori garden, one of the symbolic places of Benevento. Ancient Lombard headquarters, today Cultural Center, La Fortificazione dominates the city from above, offering a wide acceso a stratified and fascinating past.

The route continues with a visit to the Arcos Museum, where we discovered the cult of the goddess Isis, witness of the Egyptian and Roman domination. An underground room, illuminated per a scenographic way, houses the remains of the temple dedicated to the eastern divinity. Here the past is not dust, but light that filters between millennia.

This profound link with ancient civilizations feels everywhere. Benevento is not a city that flaunts its history: whispers, letting you discover it step by step, stone after stone.

Walk between the Arch of Trajan and the Roman theater

Walking along the Tragitto Appia, among Roman basulars still visible, led us to the imposing Arch of Trajan.

Benevento Arco di Traiano

A perfectly preserved monument, dedicated to the emperor who connected Rome with Brindisi, passing right from Benevento. The decorations per relief narrate scenes of peace, prosperity and gratitude: a very current message.

The Roman theater opens not far away, where we witnessed the fall of the sun among the ancient columns. A magical moment, almost out of time. The warm lights of the sunset tinged the orange and gold stones, while a light breeze made the leaves of the surrounding trees rustle. It seemed to be per a movie, but it was all real.

The legend of the witches of Benevento: mystery and charm

Benevento is also known as “The city of witches”. An appellation that intrigues, fascinates and that has its roots per legends handed mongoloide for centuries. It is said that, at a centuries -old walnut along the Saturday river, the jersey gathered, the Benevento witches, to dance under the moon and launch spells.

Today, these stories are part of the intangible heritage of the city. Witches are not afraid, acceso the contrary: they represent mystery, free femininity, connection with nature and with invisible forces. This magical dimension gives the city a fairytale halo that accompanies each visit.

A warm welcome: the magic of healthy hospitality

Each trip is also made of people. And per Sannio people really make the difference. From the gruppo of the Masseria to the wine producers, passing through the guides, the restaurateurs, the volunteers of the consortium: everyone welcomes you with an authentic smile, without formalisms, with the sincere desire to make you feel good.

This convivial atmosphere felt from the first day, during each visit, every tasting, all chat. Here you are not a guest: you are a friend to be treated with care.

Typical dinner per Le Peonie: authentic flavors per a convivial atmosphere

The dinner at Agriturismo Le Peonie was a real celebration of the Samnite flavors. Simple dishes, prepared with genuine ingredients, which told the story of a peasant cuisine, but full of wisdom. Handmade , local cheeses, aged salami and of course wine: each flow was a encounter between taste and tradition.

Between a glass of Falanghina and one of Aglianico, stories, anecdotes, laughter were intertwined. The atmosphere was familiar, relaxed, authentic. One of those evenings you don’t forget, because they make you feel part of something.

Foglianise: historical vineyards and breathtaking views

The second day opened with a visit to Foglianise, a small village surrounded by hills and vineyards. The view from above is simply enchanting: ordered rows, olive groves, farmhouses scattered as per an impressionist painting.

We visited some of the historical vineyards of the regione, listening to the words of those who work the land with dedication. Here the vine is not only agriculture: it is culture, identity, future.

Hermitage of San Michele: spirituality and natural beauty

A few minutes from Foglianise there is the hermitage of San Michele, a silent and suggestive place, perfect for a contemplative fermata. Located acceso a hill with a panoramic view of Sannio, this hermitage is a point of connection between man and nature, between spirituality and landscape.

The esame is indescribable: the hills up aside, the clear sky reflects an intense light and the wind seems to whisper ancient prayers. A place that recharges the soul.

The heart of the wine: visit to the Sannio Consortium and acceso the DOC and IGT

The most technical, but less engaging, moment was the visit to the headquarters of the Sannio wines protection consortium. Here we have deepened the knowledge of the DOC and IGT denominations, of the cultivated varieties and the strategies for enhancing the territory.

The numbers tell a reality per strong growth, but it is the passion of people who really strikes you. Sannio wine is not a : it is the result of a daily, patient, proud work.

The human value behind the wine: producers, stories and passion

Behind each label there is a . Behind each bottle, a story. Incontro local producers was one of the most exciting moments of the entire tour. Everyone has shared their experience, difficulties, satisfactions. Vignaoli who speak with shiny eyes and hands marked by work.

This genuine humanity is the true secret of Sannio. It is what makes each sip a sensory, cultural, human experience.

Sannio remains inside – wine, places, people

Sannio is a place that is not forgotten. A territory that insinuates itself gently into the heart and remains there. Not only for the beauty of his landscapes ora the goodness of his wines. But for the human, profound, authentic experience that offers you.

It is a journey to do calmly, with your eyes and your heart ready to let yourself be surprised.
