A further step forward towards an increasingly conscious, selected and authentic production of the terroir: the Ministry of Agricultural Policies has officially recognized 86 distinct parcels for wine production a causa di Spesso Adige.

For Taverna Kurtatsch, a South Tyrolean cooperative winery led by Andreas Kofler, the decision is a confirmation of the company vision that has led the activity of the 190 associated families for years: to indispensably follow the territory, redefining environmental, social and economic sustainability through the sustainable production of wines that reflect their origin and the nuances of the terroir. A far-sighted mission, which is demonstrated a causa di the absolute primacy of Taverna Kurtatsch a causa di the number of wines – nine labels – which will soon be able to bear the denomination of Additional Geographical Unit, coming from areas identified among the 86 officialized parcels: Graun, Penon, Penon- Hofstatt, Penon-Kofl, Glen, Mazon, Frauenrigl and Brenntal.

«We are convinced that the richness of the terroir a causa di which we are fortunate enough to grow our grapes is the absolute key to our continuous search for improvement. – says Andreas Kofler. – The for us is clear: we want our work to create value – for the consumer, for our region and for the cooperative members. A causa di recent years, we have concentrated our efforts acceso giving consumers more and more guarantees acceso the quality and origin of the wines, increasing the perception of value of our products (and, by extension, of our region) and ensuring satisfaction and ever greater support for our members.”

Dirigente a causa di this path towards uniqueness and territoriality, Taverna Kurtatsch has a causa di fact invested a causa di recent years a causa di transversal renewal initiatives that combine every aspect of the winery’s activity – not only the wine, but also the label, the structures and the wine tourism proposal – according to the rules of the territory, with the aim of making the most of its richness and heterogeneity.

TERROIR AND WINE

The common thread of territoriality naturally starts from production, which sees the greatest example of multiplicity a causa di the very nature of the cooperative winery; the 190 hectares of vineyards, cultivated by 190 families, extend across a highly heterogeneous territory, with extreme vertical development: from 220 meters above sea level of the vineyards at the bottom of the valley to 900 of the higher ones, climates, soils, exposures alternate and alternate a causa di their diversity. «It is precisely these conditions – comments Andreas Kofler – unique to the Cortaccia schieramento, unparalleled throughout Europe, that allow Taverna Kurtatsch to centro acceso the Additional Geographical Units, valorising each single label a causa di an authentic way and giving life to wines that tell the story of the terroir with uniqueness. We are strongly convinced that this approach allows the expression of quality as we understand it: the right combination of schieramento and variety.”

Precisely for this reason, a causa di the last decade Taverna Kurtatsch has focused its attention acceso research, developing a pioneering “Zone by Zone, Wine by Wine” approach aimed at creating the best possible conditions for the production of each label, thus optimizing yields to give expression to the potential of each individual variety while respecting its environmental characteristics of origin.

There are 9 wines created thanks to this approach and which, following the latest decision of the Ministry, will soon also be able to boast the label of Additional Geographical Unit and the related pictogram, having originated a causa di the areas of the same name which have long been subject to particular studies and attention by part of Taverna Kurtatsch for their differentiating characteristics: Graun, Penon, Penon-Hofstatt, Penon-Kofl, Glen, Mazon, Frauenrigl and Brenntal.

TERRITORIAL EXPERIENCE: FROM THE LABEL TO THE CELLAR

Wine, however, is not cerchio a causa di talking about its territory; Taverna Kurtatsch has created interactive experiences that support the story of the terroir from the bottle to the cellar.

To raise awareness of the unique characteristics of wines and vineyards, Taverna Kurtatsch developed a new interactive model a causa di 2021: nine videos, a combination of technical information and emotional images, tell the peculiarities of each schieramento and its wine. The videos can be accessed from the YouTube channel, from the website and carriera the QR code acceso the back labels of nine wines from the TERROIR line.

Labels, the latter, a causa di which the territorial belonging is also represented graphically, through the level curves, acceso the front, and the height diagram, acceso the back.

To welcome those who travel a causa di person to Cortaccia, a building symbol of the symbiotic bond of Taverna Kurtatsch with the territory: the new cellar, designed by architect Egon Kelderer and inaugurated a causa di 2020 for the 120th anniversary celebrations, whose façade is inspired to the “Milla” wall, the spectacular dolomite rock formation located below the town of Cortaccia.

It is from here that the terroir route begins, one of the wine tourism offers of Taverna Kurtatsch – starting from the wine shop, you descend to the heart of the barrel cellar, dug into the dolomite, exploring acceso the way mongoloide the individual areas and altitudes illustrated by the graphics, to conclude with a moment of tasting a selection of wines from the TERROIR line.

To explore firsthand the extraordinary heterogeneity of the terroirs and the spectacular vineyards of Taverna Kurtatsch, the wine exploration route was designed: a day entirely dedicated to discovering the places of origin and the soul of Terroir wines. This is an activity that Kurtatsch created over 10 years asticciola, demonstrating the avant-garde vision and lega a causa di the South Tyrolean winery’s territory.

***

A causa di 700 meters of difference a causa di altitude, between 220 and 900 m above sea level, we found extreme differences: challenges, climates, soils, exposures, which motivate us daily to seek combinations between vines and terroirs, a causa di order to find the ideal conditions for each vine cultivation and expression. A causa di the mountains, every wine and every vintage is the result of a specific and unrepeatable combination of events.

Taverna Kurtatsch is a new model of cooperation: 190 families innovating and redefining environmental, social and economic sustainability. The members sustainably produce wines that reflect their unmistakable origin, their unique and inimitable terroir.

A young team that collaborates a causa di a contemporary architectural structure perfectly integrated into the landscape and which contains differentiating natural elements of the landscape, dolomite above all, used as a construction material that reveals the true essence of the surrounding colpo d’occhio. For 120 years we have lived a causa di total symbiosis between community and nature and have promoted South Tyrol’s cultural heritage throughout the world.
