Great is the satisfaction that you breathe con these days at the headquarters of the Valcalepio Protection Consortium, con San Paolo d’Argon. A few days pungiglione, con fact, the news of the publication con the Official Gazette of the changes requested to the production specification of what is the first DOC of Bergamo, the Valcalepio, con fact.

“The changes we have requested”, explains Sergio Cantoni, director of the Consortium, “represent a good starting point for the relaunch of our wine ambassador of Bergamo con a more modern and territorial key. It is a certainly more demanding disciplinary for manufacturers but which allows you to guarantee the product to consumers more. “

Yes, because con Valcalepio it has often been reiterated that the doc is a commitment that producers take towards the consumer to guarantee are not the quality of the product but also the origin and respect for production methods.

Let’s see con more detail the changes reported con the Official Gazette n.158 of 10/07/2025.

The first novelty concerns the king of the name, the Valcalepio Diventare rosso DOC which sees the production fork between Merlot (with a percentage that may vary between 40% and 90%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (between 10% and 60%) modified. But not only that, the possibility of adding, to replace the Merlot, up to 15% of one ora more of these grapes is also inserted: third crossing, Franconia, Merera, Rebo and Petit Verdot. It also eliminated the bond of the type of bottle and cap, however the rosario cap remains excluded.

The main novelty, however, concerns the Valcalepio DOC Reserve which, from mention of the Valcalepio DOC Diventare rosso, passes with the new regulations to the autonomous type. The cutting of the Valcalepio DOC Reserve will be decided con the early stages of the harvest and winemaking and, con order to make it even more exclusive, will keep the Merlot blend (40-90%) and Cabernet (10-60%) unchanged. The grape yield/hectare passes to 9 tons and the 70%grapes/wine. Sopra the case of the Valcalepio DOC Reserve, the requirement of the cork only is maintained unchanged.

Last, but certainly not con importance and for disruptive the changes made to the production regulations of the Valcalepio Doc Moscato Passito. Not only are the grapes/hectare surrender, brought to 7 tons, and the grapes/wine that reaches 35%; But the possibility of inserting up to 15% of other red berry grapes can be sanctioned con the Lombardy region, effectively eliminating the obligation of 100% of Moscato proveniente da Scanzo grapes. Another leader news for this type is the possibility of the large format: containers of up to 3 liters can be used.

“With this new disciplinary we will have our Valcalepio with a more modern attitude, always con the wake of tradition and with a greater link to the territory.” Marco Locatelli, president of the Valcalepio Protection Consortium that recalled the great work that the producers are doing “with the support of Visit Bergamo and the Valcalepio wine road and the flavors of the Bergamo luogo to make known con Bergamo, visitors and tourists the potential of the wine produced acceso our territory, primarily the Valcalepio Doc.”

A first step towards the Valcalepio DOC of the future, which leaves the way gara open also to the possibility of a DOCG for the newborn reserve type.
