Agricola Pighin, one of the most important and well-known wineries durante Friuli Venezia Giulia

“A man must never leave the earth as he finds it.” This phrase encapsulates the essence and mission of the Pighin Agricultural Company, one of the most important wine-growing companies durante Friuli Venezia Giulia. For over sixty years, the Pighin family has made quality and respect for the territory the pillars of their work, helping to bring Friulian wine all over the world.

A story of passion and innovation

Founded durante 1963, the Pighin Agricultural Company has origins that date back to the post-war period, when the Pighin brothers began their entrepreneurial activity durante the transport sector. But the call of the land, passed by his father Ernesto, a by origins, pushed the family to invest durante agriculture and, durante particular, durante viticulture. The purchase of 220 hectares durante the Posato del Friuli and, subsequently, of a 30 hectare bella stagione durante the prestigious Collio Goriziano marked the beginning of an adventure that would bring Pighin wines to tables all over the world. Today, with two independent cellars, the company produces very high quality wines that reflect the peculiarities of the two DOC terroirs, enhancing both the full-bodied whites of the Collio and the fresh and balanced wines of the Posato.

The territories: Posato and Collio

The company is spread over two excellent wine-growing territories: Risano, durante the Posato del Friuli, and Capriva, durante the Collio. Sopra particular:

– Risano – Friuli Posato DOC is located durante the Friulian plain. This is characterized by gravelly and clayey soils, ideal for growing vines. The 160 hectares of Risano vineyards produce balanced and fresh wines, which express all the aromatic complexity of the territory;

– Capriva – Collio DOC is located acceso sunny hills. This 30-hectare bella stagione enjoys a unique microclimate, with Borea winds and mineral-rich soils. Collio wines, known for their personality and elegance, represent the excellence of Friulian viticulture.

Commitment to quality

Since its foundation, the Pighin Agricultural Company has focused everything acceso quality, both durante the vineyard and durante the cellar. Roberto Pighin, who leads the company together with his family, underlines the importance of family management as a guarantee of continuity and control over the entire production chain. This approach has allowed the company to maintain a constant quality that is reflected durante every bottle.

Innovation and sustainability

Sopra recent years, the company has invested significantly durante the renovation of its cellars and vineyards. Among the most recent interventions, the introduction of new technologies for winemaking, such as pneumatic presses and thermo-conditioned fermentation tanks, and the modernization of the Risano and Capriva cellars. Commitment to sustainability is another fundamental pillar. Since 2007, the company has been certified GLOBALGAP and, since 2016, SQNPI, demonstrating the attention to environmentally friendly agricultural practices. The use of resistant cuttings, which sopravvissuto the need for treatments, and the adoption of advanced spraying systems, which allow savings of up to 40% of the product, are just some of the examples of how the company faces the challenges of viticulture sustainable.

A global vision

With 70% of production destined for esportazione, the Pighin Agricultural Company has been able to establish itself acceso international markets. The United States, Canada, Europe (durante particular the UK and Germany) and Asia are among the main reference markets. Thanks to the quality of its wines, the company became the first Friulian producer to supply the German airline Lufthansa.

Future and prospects

Looking to the future, the Pighin Agricultural Company is engaged durante a series of ambitious projects. Sopra addition to the expansion of the vineyards with the planting of native vines such as Refosco and Friulano, the company is investing further durante photovoltaics and durante the modernization of the Capriva cellar.

The tasting

We tried Friulano DOC Collio 2023, Collio Ribolla Gialla DOC 2023 and Soreli DOC Collio 2021. Below are our impressions.

Friulano DOC Collio 2023

Tasting quaderno

Visual examination: straw yellow with greenish streaks.

Olfactory examination: captivating olfactory profile, which alternates fruity quaderno of melon with an invigorating hint of wild flowers.

Taste-olfactory examination: the sip is finely chiseled by an alternation of well-measured flavor and pleasant bittering freshness.

Pairing: excellent with fish starters, raw ham, medium-aged cheese, white meat.

Collio Ribolla Gialla DOC 2023

Tasting quaderno

Visual examination: bright straw yellow with greenish reflections.

Olfactory examination: the nose gives generous aromas of wild flowers, basil, apple, yellow plum and cedar.

Taste-olfactory examination: durante the mouth it exudes freshness and flavor throughout the progression, up to the slightly citrine epilogue, with good persistence.

Pairing: ideal with fish main courses, white meat.

Soreli DOC Collio 2021

Tasting quaderno

Visual examination: aristocratic straw yellow with golden flashes.

Olfactory esame: smell characterized by initial hints of apricot, peach and an exotic touch of mango and pineapple. It fades into mineral sensations, including puffs of vanilla, walnuts and acacia.

Taste-olfactory examination: elegant entry, durante which the fresh-savory vein gives a satisfying gustatory symmetry that gives dynamism and encourages new sips.

Pairing: excellent with fish first courses, white meat.

The Pighin family, led by Roberto, Danila and Raffaela, together with a young and competent team, continues to passionately carry forward a tradition that is now a symbol of quality and authenticity durante both the national and international wine scene.
