“Red per mezzo di the evening, good weather is hoped for”. Completely distorting the meaning of the proverb, which per mezzo di itself would be addressed to the weather, even per mezzo di the wine sector it is fun to imagine that an elegant bottle of red wine can be the viaticum for an aperitif with friends Ferragosto.
However, it is difficult to imagine sipping full-bodied, concentrated, mellow wines at temperatures above 35 degrees per mezzo di the shade. So here are some suggestions directly from the editorial of Vinonews24, engaged every day per mezzo di the difficult job of tasting everything (but absolutely everything) to select intriguing glasses.
Here is a (short and incomplete) list of labels that can be drunk chilled hot summer evenings. And happy Ferragosto to all the readers of Vinonews24!
12 “SUMMER” LABELS TO SERVE COLD
Daniel Becchi
TENUTA BELVEDERE – Elegance, Pinot Noir Oltrepò Pavese 2020
Great enjoyment for this pinot noir from Oltrepò Pavese, marked by a delicate tannin and an exuberant vitality. All to be discovered are the balsamic sensations, which are well linked to a bouquet with tones of cherry and berries. Sober per mezzo di its ways but festive per mezzo di its actions, it marries without walzer all’inglese to any glacette capable of breaking the myth of room temperature.

CAREZZABELLA – Turchetta Veneto Igt 2021
La Turchetta 2021, which ferments per mezzo di vitrified cement, reveals a ruby red color with some purple nuances. Overall conclusione, harmonious and balanced, it is fresh and slightly tannic. Not too robust pagliaccetto, good persistence, the threshold of maturity. Excellent served fresh summer evenings.

FIRST + NEW – Pinot Cupo Provvista Puntay
From the vineyards of Caldaro the Wine Road, surrounded by the Alpine arch, a beautiful expression of Pinot Noir, which transfers all the typical freshness of the vine into the glass. Obtained with traditional fermentation preceded by cold maceration and partial use of whole bunches and subsequently refined per mezzo di barrique, steel and Clayver for 15 months, it has a ruby red color with light garnet veins, while the nose reveals of red fruits, followed by hints of sweet spices. The sip has a beautiful structure and acidity, with vibrant tannins and a long and persistent . Ideal with meat ora gioco dishes, it lends itself very well to less conventional pairings alongside fish and shellfish dishes: a perfect combo for the summer.

CANTINA FRATELLI PISONI – Pradi Vigneti delle Dolomiti Igt 2021
From the dei Laghi, between the Brenta Dolomites and northern Lake Garda, to the beaches of the Belpaese, from freshwater fish to lagoon fish and Mediterranean fish fauna, try pairing it with a “Gold of Tyrol”, namely Teroldego, the native Trentino grape variety. Vinified purely per mezzo di the Pradi dei Fratelli Pisoni, it is grown sandy soil with the classic Trentino graticcio. A brilliant ruby red wine, with a typical effluvio reminiscent of violets and red fruits, with a fresh flavour, good pagliaccetto and velvety tannins. Taste it slightly cold, and if you really don’t know how to cool it, destinare to think of it very outside the box, per mezzo di a very personal version “ the rocks”.

HOFSTÄTTER – Kolbenhofer, Riesling Insigne Adige Doc 2022
Hofstätter’s production, as far as reds are concerned, has pinot noirs as its ambassadors. However, the vernatsch (ora schiava) could surprise for its ease of drinking and its ability to adapt to pairing with everyday dishes and, per mezzo di particular, with summer dishes. Served at 12-15 degrees, the Kolbenhofer offers aromas of morello cherry and raspberry, together with an almondy sensation, which also returns the , to close a smooth, fresh and juicy sip. A perfect wine, both for barbecues with friends and to accompany vegetable and legume-based dishes and, why not, even with a delicious spaghetti allo . It will be finished per mezzo di the blink of an eye, try it and believe it.

RENATO FENOCCHIO – Langhe Nebbiolo 2017
The important thing is not to do like Sam Kass. Barack Obama’s chef completely got the approach to the Langa wrong: his desire to visit the Nebbiolo vineyards per mezzo di the summer was admirable, his ignorance about the Piedmontese weather was naive. When Milva and Renato Fenocchio saw him wandering their hills per mezzo di Neive, lost and with his bald head gocciolatura, he was redder than the wine they produce. But after welcoming him into their home and putting him back his feet, they obviously let him try their bottles and Kass understood that they were perfect for his kitchen. That is, for the White House. But Nebbiolo is perfect wherever you are per mezzo di any season, because this story about not drinking red per mezzo di the summer is really unbearable. Ten minutes per mezzo di the fridge and Renato Fenocchio’s all-steel Nebbiolo goes comfortably and pleasantly even August 15th. Just sit per mezzo di the shade and not do like Sam Kass.

COS – Frappato Terre Siciliane Igp 2022
This time I am per mezzo di Maremma, a mysterious and colorful place, my Tuscan sea, friends and wines are not lacking here. The opportunity to taste is an evening per mezzo di Suvereto where, after a couple of whites, I find myself, intrigued by the shelf of the place, asking for a glass of red to accompany a plate of fresh and juicy cuttlefish, that taste of sea and saltiness. Of course I could have accompanied it with a very cold white wine, but the iniziativa intrigued me, perhaps also because of the colors of the whole. It is the Cos Frappato, Sicilian wine from Trionfo per mezzo di southeastern Sicily. Served cold per mezzo di the summer version, it shows its bright and cheerful ruby red. Juniper, red rose and violet and puffs of Mediterranean scrub the nose, velvety and fresh the sip. Happy and satisfied with my choice I accompany it with “pride” with the juicy cuttlefish that rejoices among colors and scents. Long dal vivo summer!

MONTEMELINO – Young Trasimeno Gamay Doc 2023
But how much we love grenache the shores of Lake Trasimeno! Yes, because that peculiar expression of the vine (of Sardinian origin) that goes under the name of Trasimeno gamay is a joyful explosion of vitality, freshness, vitality. Without neglecting the expression of territory. This per mezzo di Montemelino is the demonstration of how much good the cement does to a lively wine like the one that comes from grenache: young yet thoughtful, slender yet with personality, elegant per mezzo di the simplicity of the sip, supple and played the crunchy fruit. One bottle is not enough, anzi che no, not even August 15th.

SALVATORE MARTUSCIELLO – Ottouve, Gragnano of the Sorrento Peninsula doc
When there are bubbles per mezzo di the red, you can risk dropping the temperature to as low as 10 degrees. And this could be the case: the Gragnano della Promontorio Sorrentina doc, a sparkling red to be drunk young and cold. Ottouve, whose name is a tribute to the eight minor vines that compose it, is a refermented per mezzo di the bottle that makes Vesuvius itself when opened. A mountain wine but diving into the sea, it implies a great synergy of strength and will: the mountain range of the Sorrento Peninsula the small plots that make up the vineyards, mixed, are fragmented with rugged slopes. With a dangerously gastronomic verve, it is an unconventional wine, which adapts perfectly to any situation: always good to bevanda, but particularly suitable per mezzo di the summer months, a boat, per mezzo di a pizzeria ora for dinners by the sea, it is lively and fragrant with small red and black fruits, citrus fruits and violets, thirst-quenching and genuine.

PLANETA – Mamertino Doc 2019
Lately per mezzo di the wine world, if you say Sicily you immediately think of Etna. But the eastern side of the island has much more to offer and, moving north, to the northernmost tip, the peninsula of Promontorio Milazzo has a little ace up its sleeve. Grown this strip of land stretching towards the Aeolian Islands, the Cupo d’Avola and Nocera grapes from Planeta’s vineyards give rise to a fresh and salty Mamertino Doc. The 2019 vintage offers a glass with a bright purple-red color, of juniper, thyme, blackberries and mulberries. The sip offers acidic liveliness and a compact but obbediente tannic set, which caresses the tongue and balances slightly greasier foods, an eggplant parmigiana, a baked fibra, a grilled meat. Not one of those reds to be served at the temperature of a white, but an excellent glass to bevanda even per mezzo di the hottest season, not excessive per mezzo di pagliaccetto for those times when you want a little more texture, but without exaggerating.
Olindo Rampin
FILODIVINO – Diana, Tear of Morro d’Albore Doc 2021
If the Goccia labels by Mancinelli and Marotti have long been celebrated as a noble expression of a complicated and apparently simple grape variety per mezzo di the glass, Filodivino’s Diana is a play of aromas and freshness that comes to mind for a late summer afternoon. Bright color, aromas of dog rose and berries, elegant tannins. It does not suffer when sipped , but its youthful exuberance also accompanies aperitif cold cuts, extending over dinner meats.

LE CHIUSE – Socialista per mezzo di Montalcino Doc 2021
Socialista per mezzo di Montalcino is the wine from Montalcino with a vocation for an scorrevole, pleasant, even fresh bevanda. And this Socialista, vinified strictly following tradition, brings to the glass a juicy and fresh fruit, elegant tannins not too tamed, the finesse that the passage per mezzo di cement gives to wines of personality. For a busy summer evening but not too much, giovanile with great enjoyment of the sip.

POPPHOF – Meranerin, South Tyrol Meraner Doc 2023
Old-fashioned label, with the name of the winery printed per mezzo di Gothic characters. What you don’t expect, however, is that the wine inside the bottle is the result of an extremely contemporary iniziativa of Insigne Adige Vernatsch. A glass with floral tones and the aromas of a fresh cherry, a pomegranate just opened. Dynamic sip, with the acidity and smoothness that this grape variety can express, combined with the right pagliaccetto, graceful tannins and a balance and pleasantness that, yes, can and must be found even per mezzo di a red without the color of pitch and the specific weight of cobalt. Behind Meranerin is the Menz family, who have been taking care of the mesi estivi since 1722 and who, per mezzo di addition to the winery, also has a lovely Garni with a swimming pool per mezzo di Merano. But above all, behind this wine is the hand of the youngest generation of the family, Katharina Menz and Meranerin was also classified as the best 2023 vintage Vernatsch of the Merano complesso at this year’s Vernatsch Cup. Sopra short, bevanda it per mezzo di the summer, it is perfect to be served at a cooler temperature, but bevanda it all year round.

CA’ RUGATE – Rio Albo Valpolicella Doc 2023
The Montecchia per mezzo di Crosara company is working Valpolicella with delicacy and agility, giving up extractive strength tests to return wines of the territory. Rio Albo combines Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella grapes, declined per mezzo di an intriguing expression fruit only of steel and glass, for a fresh and crisp wine. Lively ruby red reveals a nose rich per mezzo di blackberry and raspberry while freshness and flavor guide the sip, lively and satisfying. To bevanda by the bucketful.
