Lipari, the largest of the Aeolian Islands, is a place where time seems to have stopped. Here stands from Castellaro, between terraces overlooking the sea and vineyards perched acceso volcanic soils, a cellar that embodies the essence of a unique territory per mezzo di the world. Founded per mezzo di 2005 by the Lentsch family, originally from Bergamo, the company has become a point of reference for heroic viticulture and the production of wines that tell the geological and human history of these islands.

Sommo Lentsch, founder and holder of Terreni per Castellaro (pH Consacrato Tarantino)

The story of Terreni per Castellaro begins with a suggestion. Sommo Lentsch, a passionate sailor, landed per mezzo di Lipari per mezzo di 2000 and, enchanted by the landscapes, decides to explore the . Arrived per mezzo di Quattropani, a cassetta that dominates the sea overlooking Salina, Filicudi and Alicudi, sees the abandoned vineyards near the cave quarries and feels the ubbia of an ambitious project: to give life to those land and produce wines that were L ‘Authentic expression of Lipari. The conferenza with the winemaker Indenne Foti, an expert per mezzo di volcanic soils, marks the beginning of an adventure that challenges the hostile nature of the island. Between logistical difficulties and limited resources, the determination of Lentsch transforms an ubbia into a consolidated reality.

Today, those abandoned lands have turned into a avant -garde company, which has 24 hectares, of which 22 vines, and produces, under the supervision of the oenologist Emiliano Falsini who took over from Foti per mezzo di 2016, just over 80 thousand bottles there year, he manages a bioenergetic cellar, a wine resort and the Geominerary Park of the Caolin quarries, a cleaner cleaner and made usable for the community.

Terreni per Castellaro, Vulcanic Terroir and rare varieties per mezzo di Lipari

Terreni per Castellaro holds and enhances a unique terroir. Lipari soils are the result of millennia of volcanic activities, pumic, oxidians and volcanic ashes create a substrate rich per mezzo di minerals and with an excellent draining capacity, ideal for the growing of the screw and which gives the wines a marked territorial footprint. The vineyards are arranged acceso terraces dug per mezzo di the rock and supported by dry stone walls, with screws raised to sapling, a traditional system that guarantees wind resistance, brackish, and an optimal vegetative balance, and which helps protect the bunches from the scorching sun. The vineyard work is entirely manual, with a differentiated management plant per dovere plant.

The mesi estivi cultivates mainly two native vines: the Malvasia delle Lipari and the Black Corinth. Malvasia is a white grape that for centuries has distinguished the wine production of the archipelago. Its history has its roots per mezzo di antiquity, when the Greeks introduced viticulture to the islands. Characterized by small scregoli and small bellies, it develops a high sugary content, giving the wines an extraordinary aromaticity, with hints of white flowers, citrus fruits and marine taccuino, which reflect the volcanic terroir and the Mediterranean climate. Castellaro’s mesi estivi has chosen to enhance this grape variety through different interpretations, from dry to passito. While the Corinth, a black berry grape variety, always of Greek origin, is an oenological rarity, of difficult agronomic management, capable of giving the vines depth and structure.

A -impact cellar

The cellar, which is inspired by the hypogean houses of the Aeolian Islands, is a virtuous example of bioenergetic architecture. Forbidden and developed acceso three levels, he uses gravity for labor, solar fireplaces and a wind tower for natural temperature and humidity control, thus avoiding energy waste. The columns of the barricaia, inspired by the Norman cloister of Lipari, tell the geological history of the island through the rocky stratifications.
