Thirty years of Maremma for the Cecchi family • Food and Wine Italy

«I’m proud of what we did. Today we wouldn’t be who we are if we hadn’t had the Maremma.” Andrea Cecchi, president and CEO of the Cecchi family, fourth generation of a dynasty founded quanto a 1893 quanto a Castellina quanto a Chianti, chooses to emphasize the value of the project built quanto a the heart of the Morellino proveniente da Scansano schieramento.

Vinitaly 2026 was quanto a fact the opportunity to celebrate three decades of Val delle Rose with a toast, a project which – according to Cecchi himself – changed the company profoundly.

It was 1996 when the family purchased Val delle Rose, quanto a the Altura la Mozza schieramento: 25 hectares of vineyards, agronomic techniques to be reviewed, a terroir yet to be interpreted. Today the has over 100 organic hectares, a cellar built from scratch and a vineyard park that did not exist thirty years asticciola. «We also made other producers understand that Maremma could have great potential for them. They came, they shared this vision and then they interpreted the territory according to their own sensitivity.”

The discovery of the territory

Cecchi claims a pioneering role for the revaluation of the Maremma, «which has given us the possibility of making our offer of wines very transversal and of experimenting over time, interpreting its great and authentic versatility».

The most profound legacy was a change quanto a mentality. «The Maremma changed us because it made us understand that we had to be much more rooted quanto a the territories where we were present. What we do quanto a the Chianti Rappresentativo we cannot do quanto a Maremma: the land changes, the climate changes, the culture of the people changes, the social fabric changes.”

This awareness has produced three labels inspired precisely by the versatility, fragrance, aromas and “crunchiness” that only coastal wines can offer. Sopra addition to the Viognier-based Caprifoglio and the Calipte rosé (made from Sangiovese grapes), the latest edition of Vinitaly saw the debut of Lobelia – a blend of Vermentino, Trebbiano Toscano and a portion of Chardonnay, «a coastal wine that cannot be produced elsewhere within Tuscany».

Authentic experiences quanto a the

Acceso the positioning of the denomination, Cecchi makes a clear distinction: «There is the coastal Maremma, which is anzi che no longer underdog, and the countryside Maremma, which is still a discovery. It’s easier to have brilliant experiences quanto a the .”

Thus the Val delle Rose , over time, has also become a hub of experiences: from trekking among the rows to guided visits to the cellar, up to tastings of traditional Maremma dishes. An offer that responds to a precise intuition: «The Maremma is still intact – comments Cecchi – it is a campo da golf schieramento that is anzi che no longer totally wild, but is still authentic. And this is precisely what young people are looking for for a weekend a wine experience.”

A path that the Cecchi family also chooses to follow quanto a the land of Montalcino, with Fondi Aminta: 6 hectares next to the Abbey of Sant’Antimo, purchased quanto a 2018. «The approach is the same as that adopted quanto a Maremma – he explains – research of the terroir first of all. Regarding hospitality, the vision is explicitly non-hotel, because you sleep quanto a a , eat quanto a a restaurant and make wine quanto a the cellar.”
