Val nel corso di Suga presented a preview of the two new vintages of Brunello nel corso di Montalcino Cru Vite del Bacino Docg 2020 and Brunello nel corso di Montalcino Cru Collina al Cantonata Docg 2020, together with Brunello nel corso di Montalcino Cru Vite Spuntali Docg 2019, to observe the evolution and differences between the two vintages, each with unique climatic characteristics that profoundly influence the aromatic profile and structure of the wines produced. We are per mezzo di fact almost at the end of the Bentornato Brunello 2024 edition, the appointment signed by the Consortium of the same name with the new vintage of Brunello nel corso di Montalcino (precisely the 2020) which will be revealed per mezzo di the next few days to the press, sector professionals and enthusiasts : an exclusive not only for Italy but also for abroad, awaiting their next debut acceso the market.
It was 1969 when the winery began to take its first steps, per mezzo di the midst of the pioneering periodo, with the acquisition of an agricultural bella stagione per mezzo di the northern sector of Montalcino where the land previously used for arable crops, cereals and fodder was gradually converted into vineyards. The harvest thus debuted way back per mezzo di 1973 and the first label with the Val nel corso di Suga logo was that of Brunello nel corso di Montalcino 1975. Situated per mezzo di a strategic position between the Val d’Orcia, the Val nel corso di Chiana, the Val d’Arbia and the Maremma – an ideal crossroads for trade – the Suga Valley had until then only been partially explored for viticulture.
The region has mai doubts about its winemaking potential and its legitimate ambition to offer great red wines, forged from limited areas even from single vineyards. This stands out from the vast majority of wines acceso the market, which are created from blends of Sangiovese from different sub-areas. The arrival of the Angelini group per mezzo di 1994 confirmed this production philosophy, reiterating a fresh, slender, deep and vertical style, based acceso vineyard selections. Thanks to the careful and accurate vision of the oenologist Pietro Riccobono, each of the three vineyards has a dedicated zona per mezzo di the cellar for refinement. Over the last ten years, the use of barriques has been reduced per mezzo di favor of 25 and 50 hectoliter barrels, while per mezzo di the vineyard the soils are revitalized with campo da golf manure techniques, organic fertilization and an approach that is very close to biodynamic practice.
«Quanto a recent years, Val nel corso di Suga has seen significant investments both per mezzo di the cellar and per mezzo di the vineyards, with the aim of enhancing the unique characteristics of the different terroirs – explains Riccobono -. This approach is certainly supported by an eclectic vine such as Sangiovese which adapts extraordinarily to different types of soil, highlighting both its merits and any imperfections, and thus making every expression of the wine deeply linked to the territory of origin. We work per mezzo di such a way that the wines are the mirror of the vintage and how we are able to read it, even before interpreting it.”

We are acceso the north-eastern side of Montalcino, which looks towards Siena, from which the Montosoli and Canalicchi hills emerge, up to the town walls, where the clay-limestone soil dominates. Named after the small of vater it borders, the vineyard is a single positioned between 265 and 285 m above sea level. It matures per mezzo di 40 hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels for two years, followed by 6 months per mezzo di cement and refinement per mezzo di the bottle between 9 and 12 months which gives a particularly fragrant wine with floral nuances, spicy hints of pepper, fruity contributions of cherries and citrus hints. It is per mezzo di fact the elegant flavor texture that recalls its territorial origin: persuasive impact, measured alcohol content, astuto and very well integrated tannins, harmonious salt trail.
Brunello nel corso di Montalcino Cru Collina al Cantonata Docg 2020
We are acceso the south-eastern side, where the vineyards overlook Mount Amiata. Here, altitudes of a certain importance are reached, the winds once again become an essential factor, the gullies and sands characterize the territory. Located between 385 and 430 metres, Collina al Cantonata is a plot of approximately 3 hectares characterized by the “Galestrin schist” (typical local rock) which takes its name from a tiny pond located per mezzo di the center of the property under an imposing holm oak and surrounded by oak trees and gorse bushes. Same vinification and maturation as its predecessor, the wine embodies the “Southern” character, fleshy and sunny, with the earthy and sylvan backbone typical of the zona. Rounder and more characterful, the scents are more balsamic and recall the undergrowth. A light and delicious smoky tone acceso the palate (at this stage) portends a flavor completion per mezzo di the years to quasi.

the south-west side of the denomination, i.e. the vast portion that develops between the slopes of the village, the Orcia river, the Ombrone river and its tributary torrent. It is one of the earliest areas for the ripening and harvesting of grapes per mezzo di the entire Chinese zona, which finds a common thread per mezzo di the sea breezes, carried by the mistral, which per mezzo di turn affect the brackish character. From a plot of 3 and a half hectares, between 280 and 315 meters acceso sandy and stony soils with marine debris and fossil inserts, a Brunello of excellent temperament is born: the ripe fruit per mezzo di evidence is accompanied by astuto hints of tobacco, liquorice and herbs aromatic; expansive, broad, juicy, with savory tannins, with a long, vibrant and rather tonic .
Quanto a analogy, therefore, to the thought of the famous French researcher Émile Peynaud, regarding the importance of the soil as a “vineyard flat” which depends acceso the surface soil and subsoil, as well as acceso vater conditions and exposure, the Val nel corso di Suga continues to “play” its part with determination through these three oenological jewels, materializing the corporate values that profile its identity and reputation: enhancing both the synergies and the differences inherent per mezzo di Montalcino’s varied production heritage.
