Verticale by Nobile di Montepulciano Alboreto Talosa: ok the price is right
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

We were fortunate sufficient to take part in a vertical tasting (various vintages of the exact same white wine) of the Nobile di Montepulciano Alboreto, from the Talosa winery. You can check out how the years went below, however what we wish to speak about very first is what we found later on.

We believed we were handling the traditional “incredibly” Tuscan bottles, the really costly ones that can be purchased simply for Christmas or for wedding event anniversaries, however I was incorrect. After the tasting we went to their site to see the rates and although we can not speak about the financial variety, we are well within the classification of bottles that can be acquired a bit more quietly, above all since they are great, or rather exceptional.

Clearly the older vintages cost a bit more (less than EUR30) and the current ones less (less than EUR20) however all of them – particularly if we compare them with specific rates walking around today – deserve every euro they cost.

Let’s get to the white wines. Alboreto has actually been made with 100% Sangiovese considering that 2016 and our vertical starts from there.

Nobile di Montepulciano Alboreto Talosa 2016– EUR29

We are confronted with an excellent Montepulciano, no ifs or buts. An expression of Sangiovese of unusual sophistication both on the nose where it exposes itself to be both fruity and flower and in the mouth where it goes into with sweet taste and uses a record-breaking depth of drinkability. Splendid.

Nobile di Montepulciano Alboreto Talosa 2017– EUR26

The 2017 vintage was likewise made complex in Montepulciano with severe weather occasions and white wine production that was the most affordable in the last 70 years. The outcome is a red wine with an extremely focused and alcoholic nose. In the mouth it has an effect however not especially relentless. Of the lot, this is the one we liked least.

Nobile di Montepulciano Alboreto Talosa 2018– EUR23

On the nose it is sweeter, you can smell a little vanilla in the wood (this is the vintage in which the portion of tonneux is greatest). In the mouth it likes the method it goes into, convincing and somewhat alcoholic. We would state it is a fragile white wine, other than that it is constantly Sangiovese and a little bit of still roaring tannin exists to show it to us.

Nobile di Montepulciano Alboreto Talosa 2019– EUR19

It’s the bottle we would purchase to leave in the cellar to age quietly for a couple of more years. If we wished to consume it right away we would discover a Montepulciano of character with a classy and somewhat alcoholic nose. In the mouth it is effective, we discover the warm alcohol material integrated with a long perseverance and a tasty surface.

Nobile di Montepulciano Alboreto Talosa 2020

Costs not yet released on the website. Young boy, we are practically at an en primeur taste. The tannin bites and is fresh on the nose and the fruit dominates whatever. In the mouth it has a significant level of acidity that recommends developments that throughout the years will deserve tasting once again. Crisp.

The vertical tastings are made particularly to highlight the distinctions, in basic, as we stated at the start, it is a “standard” Montepulciano however which has definitely nothing standard about it. For us at Avvinando, we are confronted with an outstanding quality/price ratio. It deserves a try.Sergio Bolzoni
