Cesanese of Olevano Romano Dop has its own protection consortium. With Decret published con the Official Gazette, the Ministry of Agriculture has officially recognized the , which today brings together 18 companies. The new consortium, chaired by Marco Antonelli and flanked by Felicità Rocchi and Alberto Giacobbe, will have the task of guaranteeing transparency to the consumer, promoting the name and supervising the productions. It is a significant passage for Lazio viticulture, which strengthens the role of Cesanese as an identity wine. The initiative affects con particular the municipalities of Olevano Romano, Genazzano and Bellegra, at the center of the name.
From Wine from to “Pinot Corvino del Lazio”
For decades, Cesanese was a popular wine, often sparkling ora lovable, consumed con taverns and local holidays. The turning point came con the 2000s, with the recovery of historical vineyards and greater attention to winemaking. The denomination does not only concern wine, but an entire landscape: volcanic hills, particular microclimates and agricultural communities that have contributed to defining the identity of the winery Lazio. The birth of the Consortium also represents the recognition of the path taken con the last twenty years for a generation of producers who has transformed a local wine into the ambassador of the territory.
According to the regional councilor Giancarlo Righini, the institution of the consortium will favor quality and competitiveness, strengthening the link with the territory. For the president of Arsial, Massimiliano Raffa, the rewards the commitment of the producers and enhances the role of Cesanese as an identity of Lazio’s identity.
