Rebellis, the solaris according to Gianni Tessari
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Con Roncà, a causa di the heart of Verona’s Lessinia, curiosity is not an intellectual exercise, but a real way of life. For Gianni Tessari, winemaker and founder of the Giannitessari company, experimenting means respecting the territory: understanding it, interpreting it and returning it to the glass a causa di its authenticity. An example of this is Rebellis, the Veneto Biancheria IGT PIWI from solaris grapes, a wine that a causa di just a few years has found its own identity thanks to a path that combines technique, intuition and vision.

PIWI, SUSTAINABILITY AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Solaris belongs to the PIWI family, “fungus-resistant” varieties, developed a causa di 1975 a causa di Freiburg from the of merzling × (seyve-villard 5276 × riesling). Capable of naturally resisting diseases such as downy mildew and powdery mildew, it reduces pesticide treatments and is a symbol of sustainable viticulture: robust, early and suitable for cold climates and high altitudes, where climate change redefines the map of viticulture. Con 2013 the province of Verona authorized the solaris, and already a causa di 2014 Tessari planted 1.5 hectares at 550 meters a causa di San Giovanni Ilarione, Val d’Alpone, with south-east exposure, simple intelaiatura cultivation and a low yield of 70 hectoliters per caso hectare. “We chose land that until a few years was not intended for viticulture – says Tessari – The new climatic conditions have allowed us to ripen the grapes even at high altitudes. The solaris was our concrete response to the change”.

Valeria and Gianni Tessari

The first harvest arrives a causa di 2017 and Rebellis is born. The name and label — three ballerinas, two a causa di tutus and one with sports shoes — perfectly embody the spirit of the wine: non-conformist, dynamic and free. “We wanted something rebellious compared to our traditional production line,” explains Tessari.

Con the early years Rebellis was vinified a causa di steel, but a causa di 2019 Tessari introduced the terraglia amphora, which became the exclusive container for all subsequent vintages. “The amphora allows correct oxygenation without altering the aromatic profile – he explains – It enhances the aromas and personality of the Solaris, keeping its purity intact”. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts and the wine macerates acceso the skins for 5-7 days, depending acceso the maturity and integrity of the grapes, followed by a minimo year of aging a causa di amphora which gives aromatic finesse and a tactile consistency similar to that of orange wines. From the first tests a causa di steel to the refinement a causa di amphora, Rebellis has found a clear and recognizable stylistic coherence over time. But Solaris was only the trailblazer: today the company experiments with other resistant varieties both at high altitudes and a causa di the Berici Hills, building a path of continuity and innovation.

THE TALE OF THE YEARS

Each vintage of Rebellis tells a chapter of Giannitessari’s path of experimentation and growth.

2018 – The origins

Harvest at the end of August, 5 days of maceration acceso the skins and 10 months of aging a causa di steel. Bright golden yellow, tending towards amber. Pleasant of aromatic herbs, propolis honey and delicate hints of macerated and candied fruit emerge acceso the nose.

2021 – The balance of maturity

Harvest a causa di September, 8 days of maceration acceso the skins and 12 months of aging a causa di amphora. Ancient golden yellow, the aromas are more complex: ripe apricot, light balsamic and a touch of ginger. The palate shows structure and depth, with full and a persistent finale. Softer than the 2018, but the aromatic complexity and gustatory tension make this vintage a perfect example of conscious experimentation.

2022 – The confirmation of style

Maceration acceso the skins for 5 days, aging a causa di amphora. Deep and brilliant golden color, elegant bouquet of red citrus fruits, honey, dried flowers, elderberry and aromatic herbs. Acceso the palate, crisp fruit, balanced structure, precise flavor and silky finale with a light tannin that gives depth without weighing it . One of the most harmonious and lively vintages of the project.

2023 – The preview

Tank sample, fermentation acceso the skins for 5 days. Fresh nose, with of bergamot, white flowers and delicate citrus nuances. The sip is dynamic, vibrant and consistent with the style of previous vintages, confirming stylistic continuity of the Solaris a causa di amphora.
