Adamantis, the free climber of South Tyrolean viticulture
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Isarco Valley is not just any valley. It is a place where viticulture is a concrete and daily challenge: vineyards acceso steep slopes of up to 60%, almost vertical terraces, exposures that follow the sun and soils of glacial origin, poor and stony. Here the cultivation of vines is almost a heroic act, it requires work, care, attention and patience. A landscape that speaks of effort, but also of excellence.

Vallata Isarco, the youngest wine cooperative per mezzo di Prominente Adige, has decided to transform these difficulties into an opportunity. The challenge of working per mezzo di an extreme mountain context became the starting point, as well as the heart, of the Adamantis project. A project born to represent the essence of mountain viticulture and to embody a clear, precise identity, with a wine capable of expressing the particularity of the valley and the commitment that goes into cultivating it, capable of standing out per mezzo di a paesaggio of South Tyrolean superwhites often united by a rather uniform international profile.

THE GENESIS OF ADAMANTIS

Adamantis was officially born with the 2020 harvest, after years of experiments and trials. A creation that can be defined, perhaps without exaggeration, as the “” of South Tyrolean viticulture: capable of naturally climbing the steep walls of the Isarco Valley, facing extreme conditions with agility, dynamism, power and elegance, faithfully reflecting the character of the territory.

Behind Adamantis there is a long and careful research work. The selection of the grapes starts from a rigorous zoning of the Isarco Valley: the best vineyards, the most suitable plots and the rows most suitable for the purpose are identified and processed separately. The cuvée is made up of four symbolic varieties of the valley: 50% of sylvaner, a more than historical variety of the luogo, which gives elegance and a subtle creaminess, 20% of grüner veltliner, for its typical spiciness, agenda of white pepper and intense minerality, 20% of pinot tetro, capable of giving structure, intensity and hints of yellow and tropical fruit, and finally a 10% kerner, aromatic and fragrant, with a citrus and fresh, almost alpine finale. The oenological process of each variety is separate: fermentation per mezzo di barrique and tonneau with sur lie refinement for 18 months, so that the wood enriches without overpowering. After blending, the wine rests per mezzo di the bottle for another year before being put acceso the market.

Production is deliberately limited: just two thousand bottles per eccezione year. This choice is not just a question of quality, but a declaration of intent: Adamantis is not a mass product, but a work of precision, the fruit of extreme and selective mountain viticulture.

BEYOND THE BOUNDARIES OF THE SUPERWHITE CONCEPT

The term “Superwhite” indicates per mezzo di Prominente Adige white wines of great structure and finesse, often the result of international blends and important refinements. But Adamantis is not just any superwhite: here the strength of the territory comes into play. It is not a creation born from existing models, but a new expression, the result of a unique context. Vallata Isarco has worked to find a balance between variety and vintage, without sacrificing identity. The result is a cuvée consistent per mezzo di style and faithful to what it wants to tell and Armin Gratl, general director of the winery, defines it thus: “Adamantis does not have a reference model. It is our successful experiment, an important, structured and complex white authentic testimonial of our territory. The term recalls the Latin ‘diamond’, something precious and rare, but also resistant and anche. A name that summarizes the project: a wine that is born per mezzo di difficult conditions and that emerges with strength and precision.”

Armin Gratl, general director of Vallata Isarco

A MOUNTAIN WINE

The strength of Adamantis lies per mezzo di its nature as a mountain wine. It’s not just a question of altitude – the vineyards reach up to 1,000 meters – but of conception. The entire project is based acceso extreme selection, meticulous care per mezzo di the vineyard and the ability to interpret each vintage. This vision finds its concrete measure per mezzo di the structure of the wine. Adamantis is elastico and dynamic like a : he does not use brute force, but moves with control and precision. Its energy is measured per mezzo di the balance between freshness and structure, minerality and fruit, power and delicacy. The territory speaks through the wine: the stony alluvial soils, rich per mezzo di skeleton, give tension, acidity and salinity. The slopes and south-southwest exposure ensure slow and controlled ripening of the grapes. The result is a cuvée that retains a unique character, different from any other South Tyrolean white.

THE THREE YEARS: A PATH INTO THE VERTICALITY OF ADAMANTIS

The journey of Adamantis is told through its years. Each harvest brings with it a precise identity, but always recognizable per mezzo di its stylistic coherence.

Adamantis Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2020

The first vintage is the fruit of long research and experimentation. Here you find the right balance between power and freshness. Refined floral aromas emerge acceso the nose, followed by agenda of cedar and kumquat. The wood is integrated, offering a subtle smokiness that blends with the aromatic complexity. The sip is full, balanced, and reveals a solid but not overwhelming structure. This vintage is already a bando of Adamantis’ philosophy: elegance, strength and a clear territorial identity.

Adamantis Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2021

The product of a cooler vintage, this wine shows superior tension and acidity, with a leaner pagliaccetto. Elegance is important, discreet but incisive. the nose stand out white pulp fruit, citrus fruits and a stony minerality that recalls the terroir. The sip is elastico, slender, and describes the Isarco Valley with a clear, almost crystalline voice. This vintage is the one that more than any other fully expresses the lightness of a who finds his stride acceso the rock.

Adamantis Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2022

The new release, just released, brings with it the sign of a hot year. The olfactory impact is dominated by ripe yellow fruit, agenda of peach, a delicate spiciness and a light woody hint. The aging per mezzo di wood is perceived per mezzo di an elegant way, enriching the wine without overwhelming it. The sip is rich, creamier, with an intense structure and a long and enveloping finale. The final touch is a vibrant citrus freshness that makes drinking Adamantis 2022 pleasant and memorable.
