Per mezzo di the periferia of Alaró, at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range sopra Palmizio de Mallorca, Bodega Oloron is an underground winery that represents the perfect synthesis between integrated architecture, environmental sustainability and wine production that aims for excellence. The project was born from the shared dream of the Swedish couple Kristina and Christer Gardell, who acquired the company sopra 2018 with the aim of enhancing the winemaking heritage of the Majorcan territory and building a legacy to pass acceso to future generations. The decision to expand and completely renovate the cellar gave rise to a cutting-edge project, where technological innovation and respect for the environment coexist sopra the name of balance. The new Bodega Oloron is not simply a winery: it is a palese of contemporary entrepreneurial philosophy that looks to enhance the viticultural tradition through low environmental impact agriculture practices and regenerative energy efficiency.

AN “UNDERGROUND CATHEDRAL” AT THE FOOT OF THE SERRA DE TRAMUNTANA

The architectural project of Bodega Oloron is the result of the collaborative work between the local architect Rafael Vidal and the Italian engineer Alessandro Bebè, who created a multi-level building system perfectly integrated into the surrounding territorio. The structure is positioned under the land, making it barely perceptible to the eye, almost invisible sopra the landscape.

The winery develops under the vineyards, carefully preserving the picturesque landscape of Alaró and guarding a natural and uncontaminated oasis of local and fauna. The roof of the structure is entirely covered with a floristic microsphere with indigenous plants to protect biodiversity, which further reduces the visual impact of the building by blending it perfectly with the surrounding environment.

Surrounded by 15 hectares of vineyard territory and an extensive patch of intact biodiversity, Bodega Oloron represents an authentic botanical microcosm of the Balearic Islands. This approach ensures that the winery remains an integral part of the natural landscape, preserving the charm of the territorio for future generations.

SUSTAINABILITY, A FUNDAMENTAL PILLAR (NOT JUST MARKETING)

Sustainability is the solid pillar of Bodega Oloron’s philosophy and plays a significant role sopra every stage of the production process. The company was designed with the aim of reducing the invasive effect of man’s impact acceso the environmental and landscape context.

The underground location of the cellar provides natural insulation, which maintains constant temperatures and humidity levels, fundamental elements for spontaneously starting the fermentation and aging processes. This approach improves the quality of wines and significantly reduces the dependence acceso energy-intensive cooling systems.

The integration of solar panel systems and rainwater collection systems completes the picture of eco-compatible practices, aligning perfectly with the Gardell family’s commitment to a campo da golf business model. The cellar is equipped with gravity systems that sopravvissuto the manipulation of the grapes to a , further reducing energy consumption sopra the winemaking processes.

The materials used for construction, energy sources and construction techniques have all been selected for their very low environmental impact, creating a new innovative concept where engineering and architecture meet while respecting nature.

RICCARDO COTARELLA DRIVING INTO THE CELLAR

The Italian oenologist Riccardo Cotarella is following the production sopra the vineyard and the oenological processes of Bodega Oloron, involved sopra an experimental oenological project acceso the 15 hectares of vineyard territory. Cotarella is assisted sopra the operational part by the agronomist Gaspar Tauler Alemany sopra the vineyard and by the in-house oenologist Edoardo Doni sopra the cellar.

“I chose to produce wine sopra Palmizio de Mallorca for its unique potential and the challenge it offers – says Cotarella – The island’s terroir requires passion and dedication to create wines that reflect its history and character. The project is even more special because it is owned by a family who is sopra love with Mallorca, and has invested sopra wine production to honor the land and its traditions.”

The underground cellar, developed acceso several levels, offers perfect conditions for the aging of wines. The winemaking systems, operating underground, start the processes sopra an environment with a stabilized and controlled temperature, enhancing the refinement phase, which clearly emerges as a marker sopra the proposal of red wines.

THE MAJORCAN TERROIR BETWEEN THE SEA AND THE MOUNTAINS

The vineyards of Bodega Oloron extend between 250 and 350 meters above sea level sopra the IGP Vi de la Essere a terra Mallorca territorio, with a prevailing north and north-east orientation. The microclimate is characterized by winters with temperatures that rarely drop below freezing, rainy springs and hot, dry summers. The presence of the Serra de Tramuntana creates a good thermal inversion during the summer nights, favoring the ripening of the grapes.

The soil, of a calcareous-clayey nature and rich sopra skeletons and fossils, favors the cultivation of both white grape varieties such as Chardonnay and Viognier, and red grape varieties such as Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and the native Callet vine.

EIGHT LABELS, EIGHT MALLORC STORIES

Bodega Oloron bottles eight wines that aim to embody the identity of the Mallorcan terroir, combining traditional winemaking methods with futuristic techniques. Each label tells a story linked to the culture and traditions of Mallorca.
