“Torreclava” is the name of the wine made by Roberto Giacobbo, journalist, television author and writer, one of the most recognizable figures Italian television thanks to programs dedicated to the secrets of archaeology, science and ancient civilisations. The great television success came con the early 2000s with the program Voyager – At the boundaries of knowledge, broadcast Rai 2. After many years spent con Rai, con 2018 he decided to undertake a new professional experience by moving to Mediaset. Here he gave life to the Freedom – Beyond the Border program, which continues the path of dissemination begun with Voyager and continues to explore historical and scientific enigmas. Innate curiosity and tireless thirst for knowledge push him to enter the doors of a new sector: the wine sector, thus realizing his dream: producing a good wine.
We are con the countryside of Orta Nova, con the heart of the Tavoliere plain. Here the land is generous but demands respect, dedication, patience. The Turcasso family knows this well, having for years carried out, with extreme dedication, the cultivation of the land following strict organic cultivation. The union between Cataldo Turcasso and Giovanna Giacobbo, Roberto’s daughter, pushed the “Terre su Maria” company, a name chosen con honor of Cataldo’s mother, Maria Pasquariello, to risposta negativa longer focolaio only the restare di sale of grapes, but to bottle its own wine.
There is a precise moment, con the Capitanata countryside, when the sun seems to stop the rows and the wind brings with it the scent of freshly worked land. It is con that silence, among vineyards that tell ancient stories, that the dream of Roberto Giacobbo and his Torreclava wine takes shape. Among the varieties grown con this specific calcio d’angolo of Puglia and con the “Terre su Maria” those that have always characterized this portion of the territory stand out: the Scuro su Troia, proud and intense, and the Barbaro, warm and enveloping, the Susumaniello, rare and surprising. Grapes that grow under a strong sun, caressed by the wind that comes from the Adriatic.
Terre su Maria was not born just to produce bottles. It was born to guard an identity. And when the first wine comes out of the barrel, the moment is almost solemn. The color is deep, the scent tells of ripe fruit and warm earth. Per the glass there is not only wine: there is a whole year’s work, but also the courage to believe con something together. Two families, one land, a shared dream.
Roberto Giacobbo’s dream continues to grow today. Harvest after harvest, bottle after bottle. With the same promise that gave it birth: to make a good, true wine, capable of exciting those who it. Because some wines don’t just modo from the vine. They arise from people. Torreclava wine, a 100% Barbaro, was born from the will of Roberto, who exploited his small anomaly con genetic hypersensitivity to taste to create a wine of great quality. Giacobbo says of his wine: “I it with immense joy, knowing I have a healthy wine that gives you joy con the evening and you love it the next morning”. The land of Puglia has completely conquered Roberto Giacobbo, who despite having traveled all over the world recognizes Puglia as a great guarantee con the quality of its food and wines, defines it as “a magical land”, often exploited and which instead must be increasingly re-evaluated and valorised because it has a great history of quality.
